Graphics:
This game is not going to stretch the power of the PlayStation 5 in any way, but what they have made here is bright, crisp, and downright fun to look at, it really showcases how beautiful a crisp 4k image can look
There’s a whole host of different effects going on here, from the beautiful beaches of the cooling springs level to the hail, rain, and snow that follow later in the game
Sometimes simple is best and this game really demonstrates what can be done with some really great artwork and some really talented people.
What I do love is the attention to detail, like how the raindrops fall down and land in little crosses, triangles, squares, and circles
Score:8
Sound:
Being an overblown tech demo they really wanted to demonstrate all the things the PS5 and its new controller is capable of.
The dual sense may have the new haptic feedback and advanced rumble but it’s the combination of sound from your screen and the effects from the inbuilt speaker on the controller that really creates the immersion.
From the rain and hail that falls onto your umbrella creating a pitter-patter through the controller to the clinking sound of metal as you pull cords it all adds up to make you feel like you’re actually doing what’s happening in the game.
The soundtrack is also great, its upbeat and fun, and its really hard to not get just a little nostalgic when you hear all the different system loading sounds from generations gone by
Score: 8.5
Gameplay:
This game is meant to show off what the PS5 can do and boy does it do it well.
The game is broken up into 4 main areas and each area has a different way of using the controller, you’ll find yourself using all its features, from being a monkey and using the six-axis motion to swing back and forth to blowing into the microphone to create wind on screen.
What they’ve done really well is make all the moves feel natural, I found climbing with the monkey to be the hardest but even that became easier as I got used to swinging the controller back and forth.
And by far my favorite was the force feedback from the triggers as I guided my rocket ship through dangerous terrain, it just feels great.
Score: 9
Replay Value:
This is probably the games weakest point, while it is a blast to play through, you can score yourself a really easy platinum trophy in about 5 to 6 hours depending on how fast you want to go through the game
Once you’ve finished the game there really isn’t any reason to head back into it, aside from showing off to your friends what the new system can do, having said that I’ve gone back and played this a couple of times now and I still find myself having a good time.
Score: 6
Summary:
Sometimes games can take themselves far too seriously, fortunately, this game doesn’t do that, I was surprised at how often I found myself with a giddy little smile on my face, and that’s what this game does really well, it makes you have fun.
It’s a great piece of marketing by Sony to put this on every PS5 and I’m really glad they did, I just hope Sony decided to let the developers create a full game soon because I reckon they could make something really special.
