Introduced in 1978, the Magnavox Odyssey2 is overlooked by many video game enthusiasts (I didn’t even know it existed until a few years ago), but it is a classic in its own right, with a unique, stylish design and simple but fun games.
Unfortunately some of the best games for the system, such as “Attack of the Time Lord”, are also the hardest to find since they came right at the end of its lifespan, but you can get an Odyssey2 Multicart which contains all of the games that were ever released for it, as well as some newly created ones.

0:11 Fabulous is not an accurate description for this cheap piece of tech
Enjoyed you video m8…an old gamer frm Scotland 🏴
I wish they had an emulator of this.
I've had an Odyssey^2 since I got it used in the late 90's, and, while I do think that it doesn't stand up well against the Atari 2600, it still stands on its own as a decent early platform with some fun games to play. I think it's also the only video game console to use the Intel 8048 processor, so that's kinda neat for uniqueness.
This is funny. I have been a viewer for a while now. I search for this console to remember my 12th year of life and of COURSE you have a video of one. You have all the cool shit. I do have a couple of items I think you would be interested in. One being a complete Lloyds portable tape deck complete in box with accessories.
There's no smashing of boulders in Donkey Kong. Perhaps that was dry sarcasm?
It did have a few great games but sadly it had some limitations that made it less capable then even the Atari 2600. It also did not get a lot of support. Magnavox was mostly on it's own. I still own one with the voice module which is huge by the way.

I had the Philips Videopac version. I bought it dirt cheap as broken. It was very rusty inside and the PSU had scorch marks on it. I think it was plugged in during a flood. LOL. But I still use the joysticks, I cleaned them up and put 9 pin D connectors on them. 🙂
Does anyone know if there is a compatible power adapter that is readily available?
Yo juego todavía con mi Odyssey 2 gracias por compartirlo
Pick Axe Pete is what I remember from my childhood… still trying to remember the rest!
My first computer! Pick Are Pete was a fave of mine! I think I remember having the voice add on 😁. Thanks for uploading this! 😁.
My cousin had one of these back in the day. We spent hours on that word game you showed. The gameplay was very good on it too. Most things lacked a keyboard back then, so being able to use that was very novel at the time. Looking back, I think things would have been different if they had more educational titles for it so parents would not see it as just an expensive toy.
I had an Odyssey 2, when i was a kid. me and my 3 siblings used to play this console so much. It's my first love far s video game consoles go. My favorite game on the O2 is a K.C. Munchkin variant, called, "KC'S CRAZY CHASE" It wasn't the same as KC's K.C. Munchkin in the fact that you are chasing a Caterpillar type insect. The goal was to eat its body until only its head is left, once you've ate his body, the level was over and a new level would begin.
I loved it! It the game was even one of the very first game and one of the very few on the console to have voice support! When you finish a level, KC would say things like, "incredible!" and he would laugh loudly, when he would finish a level and wink at you. lol
It was so adorable and very entertaining for me as a 6-7 year old. I have very fond memories of this game as a child. There was also another game that me and my brother used to play a lot and i guess i like it but not as much as KC's Krazy chase. It was called, Armored Encounter. It was a battle between two tanks! lol I used to get killed alot by my brother. lol
So yeah, i have a soft spot for the old gal, the Odyssey 2. It was for me, like a lot of people, part of their childhood. ^_^
I still enjoy the odyssey 2 via emulation on my Nintendo Wii i modded. The voice isn't supported though, so i don't get the full effect of the game, being i never hear KC yell, INCREDIBLE! OH NO!, HURRY!,WATCH OUT! or laugh uncontrollably. lol
Regardless of the lack of voice, playing KC's krazy Chase on my modded wii, its still a way to get my nostalgia fix. ^_^
Thank you for posting this video, it brung back so many fond memories, hearing KC's voice. ^_^
KC Munchkin.. my hubby and I have the original..lol.. it was soooo much better than PacMan!!
How good was the voice synthesizer for the unit I never had one but I did have a g7000
The games look pretty good for that time.
are there detachable versions of the joystick?
We had one in 78 then again in 80…
I got one for 10$
I had that Odyssey console. The graphics were crap by today's standards, but back then, they were the shit! It was a source of many fond memories from my youth. Speedway was an easy game to figure out once you found out the white cars appeared on the screen in a predictable pattern, and you would move the joystick accordingly to avoid them. I had the original KC Munchkin game. It had an option where you could custom-build mazes, so I would build mine to trap the ghosts in one place while I devoured the dots! LOL! Fun times! Pick Axe Pete was way cool too!
Now, I'm wishing I kept my G7k! It really doesn't get the recognition it deserves, it actually was a cool console, realy would have been cool if it had built in BASIC.
The joysticks were very well built (until they stopped working) and it was daft that they were hard wired.
Also, on the G7000 they Videopacs had numbers, Munchkin (KC Munchkin, the game had Atari sued Philips over, was number 38)
And my G7000 had the power adaptor built in with a hard wired lead going straight to a mains plug.
This was way in advance of the Atari 2600.
KC's Krazy Chase looks better than Munchkin (and Muchkin was better than Pac Man on the 2600)
Whats nice about the KC Munchkin is that you can create your own maze. We used to block in the little guys and just chase the centipede around just to see how high it would score.
as a kid in the uk I had the phillips g7000, same thing basically, it was great! if primitive! it was around 1980
I bought one of these a year ago and have quite a few games for it now. Although a lot of the games are, shall we say, showing their age, there are some really great gems. I could play UFO or the K.C. games for hours.
When I was a kid my dad worked for this rich guy that lives in our town. He bought this for his kids in 1980. They were all grown up and moved out in 86 so he gave it to my dad for us. It came with the voice modulator and a whole lot of game. Our favorite were Smithereens, Spinout, and Attack of the Time Lord. Man those were great times and this is one great console for sure.
What was the computer that the Genesis was sitting in front of it looked like some kind of amiga
I had one. It was the competitor to the Mattel Intellivision console.
haha I still have mine!
had this as a kid 🙂 LoL ..
