Wasn't this movie a part of Nostalgia Critic's Top 11 Nostalgic Mindfucks earlier?

This was one of my favourite movies as a kid. My wife and I watched it recently and it was just too damn weird for her, but I still enjoyed it.

This is bringing back so many memories. I watched this on TV as a very young kid in the 80s. Indeed, some of the scenes gave me nightmares. The camel was my favorite character, so seeing him trip balls while he stayed in the sky at his dead relatives(?) made me feel so uncomfortable. He wanted to die so badly so he could be with them. My tiny little brain couldn't comprehend that at all. However, much like with a lot of media I watched in the 80s, I loved it. I hated things that scared me, but normally those things came with an amazing story. Land Before Time, Secret of Nihm, Brave Little Toaster, and so on.

Animation from the 70s tended to have some kind of message behind it. Like with The Point. That movie shaped my way of looking at life. Raggedy Ann and Andy…. uh… I'm not sure if it taught me anything other than confusion, lol. I loved it, but I'm not sure why. Maybe it was the animation and songs. Maybe it was the comfort the two leads gave me. My favorite toy that my grandma owned at her house was an old Raggedy Ann doll. I loved holding it. She eventually gave it to me. It might still be at my Mom's house.

This film is absolutely insane and I love it

@thesadgamer5987 August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

I know that this movie did inspire Gooseworx to make The Amazing Digital Circus.

@QuestionDeca August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

Oh wow, it predicted Donald Trump

@skootergirl22 August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

Why was this recommended to me from 3 years ago?

@AnabelBatesCorrea August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

I loved this movie as a child in the 80’s. It was weird, colorful and beautifully animated. Between this movie and The Phantom Tollbooth I was a happy and weird kid 😁

4:07 His name is actually Sir Leonard Looney; the credits refer to him as The Loonie Knight (which is also what he’s called in some of the storybooks), but he introduces himself as Sir Leonard Looney in the film

(I’m not trying to be rude by saying this; I’m just letting you know)

3:30 "May sit on me LMAO"

@TheMadmatt7 August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

Saw this in the theater when it first came out. The animation definitely made an impression, but the story did not.

@samgadd6046 August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

😅 that is the Raggedy movie that I grew up with!! That and the Winnie the Pooh movie with efflumps and woozles. No wonder I was a weird kid!!

@the9-2-5outlawgamer August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

My distant memory of this movie was when I was in elementary school watching it on VHS, and looking back at it, the screenwriter and animators must’ve dropped a ton of acid to come up with something disturbing as this.

@thesapphireone August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

For me, I really enjoyed “Roll Back The Rock” from We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story and the whole film in general! While the story did feel like 3 or 4 story ideas shoved together and a lot of it is either barely explained or elaborated on, I still really liked it, for the engaging story, likeable characters, quiet breather moments that let you take in the atmosphere, beautiful animation and wonderful music score.

This review got to me in a very certain way

@memyselfandi7782 August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

I just watched it on YouTube before coming to the review. Yes, I think it should at least be looked at

@draconiclady0610 August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

The part I love is how the animation styles change between characters. For example, the King's animation style is straight up Chuck Jones

@devinpaul9026 August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

Halloween Raggedy Ann is a great, cute, and actually very funny little special. It actually has a companion one for Christmas which isn't as good, but is still kinda fun. Andy sounds like Elroy Jetson in both of em cause he has Dawes Butler on voice, Ann is the late and amazing June Foray in both pieces, and both of them seem to be about three quarters lost now, I was a nineties kid and never saw EITHER of em ever make air even THEN. The copies I now have are jimmy rigged rewritables I actually had to pay EXTRA just to get a little art screened onto the tops of. They're free in poor quality on here though, ya oughta check em out.

Still can't believe I found my favorite movie ONLY THIS YEAR

@user-im6km2cl3j August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

@ronniebarter3857 August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

"The music got to me in a very certain way" – The most deliberately vague answer ever. Like he's on the witness stand trying to admit something deeply incriminating.

@azulathesunmoonsimp8939 August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

It was uploaded on YT a couple months, maybe a year ago, found it myself about.. 4, 3 months ago, and BOY HOWDY did that movie grab me in a chokehold- i’ve watched it 7 times in the past week, and many more times before that- why? It feels so short! It’s just easy to turn on and it feels like a simple episode of something or a tv special- not a whole ass hour and a half movie. No girls toy has infiltrated my brain so violently that it’s overpowering my current hyperfixation, and the ending scene- god the ending scene. Uhm, okay 1; Was Andy’s VA actually laughing for this part or is he just really good at mimicking actual laughter? And 2; that felt incredibly fetishy to me and that’s why I refuse to watch this movie with anyone in my family- it feels so wrong- it’s literally just, inflation fetish and tickling fetish combined into one scene. Fetishy undertones aside, Andy’s laugh was pretty endearing/infectious.

@DarkMuta108 August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

Anyone know where the characters from the beginning are from? Im looking at 0:22 and 0:18.

@1AMN0NA August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

The reason why they end up in the girls house at the end is because they saw everything crazily different especially for their sis and because their walking/talking dolls!! They thought they were at sea but really they were next to a puddle near Marcella’s house😢

@HushtheMag August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

As a dude from the UK in his early 30's who has never heard of Raggedy Anne aside from hearing it mentioned on the simpsons I have just this minute finished watching this movie on youtube. The animation was great, the relationship behind Anne and Andy was borderline incestuous and there was a song for absolutely everything. and without a doubt the creepiest thing in this were those two brown naked dolls who sang in sync. Jesus fuck they were terrifyingly annoying…

@Kamina.D.Fierce August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

Doug I'm curious… Did you know someone made a full length animated version of "Princess and the Pea"? The fact that it exists is hilarious and mindblowing on its own. The fact that it looks like actual effort went into it… makes it even funnier.

@aarondaguio7179 August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

Speaking of “Gay Purr-ee”, when are you gonna review that? I feel like it’s one of those movies people (at least those who grew up in 90s) kinda remember or didn’t think it exists until it’s brought up in a conversation and thought it was an “Aristocats” knock-off, despite it being released years before.

@ryanmatthews3609 August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

0:48 where's this from?

@TheaterPup August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

As far as whether it has "too many songs," I mean, the title says it's a "Musical Adventure." To me that indicates it's largely going to be karaoke time in the playroom. ;D

@sebastiantrus6733 August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

This movie reminds me of the Beatles yellow submarine

@rickycannon5366 August 2, 2024 - 3:54 pm

It gave me nightmares. Especially the Greedy.
