Al Michaels is very much alive and kicking. Poor fact checking there.
I went to a Don McLean concert and he didn't play American Pie. Thought he was saving it for the encore. Nope. He walked offstage… didn't come back on.
En cours'
Some certain bands I went to see in the Glasgow Apollo back in the day, would play 2 or 3 songs during their callback, which was more satisfying than coming back 2 or 3 times over 30 minutes which meant you missed the last bus home!!
My favourite encore, by the Dallas Symphony orchestra at the Proms in 1997 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yikx8T2zdM0&t=220s
Hoffman episode is my fave ep ever!
I thought the matrix thing was called 'bullet point' or something similar
This is a lovely, positive podcast, but I really wish that they wouldn't call me a cunt at the end of every episode…
Watched the opening ceremony in 2012 on a 3d tv live, mind blowing. Sadly didn't take of.
I don't think it's OK to publish an edited podcast like this with an untrue statement that a well-known[*] person has died without a clarification inserted, or at the very least with a caption correcting the statement. Al Michaels is still very much with us in July 2024, and hopefully for many more years.
[*] And yes, Al Michaels is very well known to anybody who has regularly watched US sports broadcasts in the past 40+ years.
Re' musical acts having different big hits for gigs in different territories… Be prepared for disappointment if you expect the Lightning Seeds to play 'Three Lions' in Glasgow.
Elizabeth Taylor playing Maggie should be in the top 3, though the other choices were very good
WRT encores, for classical concerts I think it's different. Firstly, it's never guaranteed you'll get an encore (although extra sheet music on the stands is a giveaway). Some performers will, and some wont, no matter how hard you clap.
Also nobody knows what the encore that was played was. Everyone claps away but saying "what was that?" 😀
I worked in a bar that was so busy no one ever needed the bathroom during shift but as soon as the last customer was out the door and our adrenaline dropped it was a mad dash for the toilets for everyone.
My understanding is that MJ was sched'd to be on but bailed at the last second so they used a MJ impersonator to do that Happy Birthday Lisa show.
A follow up on the encore question for Richard's brother: Ever not go back out?
Why is this video episode missing segments that are on the podcast on Spotify? Such as the bit on Antiques Roadshow and extra stuff on the media training topic. Thanks to @louiseannkenney6520 for spotting this. Is this the case on other episodes too?
Please don't use the reverse camera angles again. It's very disconcerting.
I think Richard's quip turned out to be spot on. Marina mistook A small L for A capital I.
Always hated encores. Terrible. When I was a young starry eyed youth in a band my plan was to have a big sign at the end saying no encores as we walked off stage.
The sky ads are horrendous.
It was Michael Jackson doing the voice in the Simpsons
The main name for the Matrix effect is Bullet Time. It has its own Wikipedia page.
There are many good reasons to move to 8k, at least for some of the footage. Looking into the future, having some of the events archived at 8k will be nice. On a more technical front, 8k (and 10k and 12k) allow the film editor far more flexibility when it comes to processing, even if the broadcast will be limited to 4k. For instance, with an 8k camera, you can cover a large amount of the stadium, but are able to zoom in during editing to a specific 4k-sized area without loosing quality. Also, if you are using lots of VFX, 8k gives you a lot more to play with – 12k even more so. Ask any Blackmagic 12k camera owner, and they will tell you it is all about the much better dynamic range, higher resolution, higher frame rates, and everything else you need to produce those perfect shots when broadcasting at 4k.
Al michaels is very much alive…
Encores are peek-a-boo fpr adults
Have I missed something? Why is this video half the length of the podcast on spotify and missing the Antiques Roadshow question? 😢
What would it take to get you two to read and discuss Das Kapital?
Is the normal Editor on holiday? We are missing our perfectly curated sections so we can skip to relevant parts easily!
London Symphony Orchestra, not Royal Philharmonic Orchestra… 🙄
I love a concert, if Ive cared enough to go out to see an artist I'll take as many encores as they want to give.
The 4 wires camera is called spidercam in Aussie Rugby League, i hate it, the shots make me nauseated!
