How about using amps so we can hear what you are playing
This was awesome, more stuff like this!!
Jon is the best teacher i recommend to check his channel
why u guys are playing without plugin the guitars? lol
1:25
is it me or it does sound like the sweep in the song Empyreal from Sylosis ?
🍠
So I economy pick my arpeggios usually and I was trying to figure out how I pick it cause I don't actively think about it. So I picked up my guitar and it turns out I don't sweep the 3 string arpeggios same way as the 5 string ones. I stop in-between the b and g string and just reverse it so there's no string skipping.
4:50 yeah i quit
This Jon Bjork is fucking amazing.
2:40 is a revelation for me, my downstrokes always sounded bad and that changed everything.
I feel like this will help me a lot with my sweep picking that just can't seem to go faster than step dad speed. Thanks guys.
These are great exercises! I'm guessing most of us don't spend nearly enough time practicing these techniques. It's nice to have someone like Jon help us slow down and focus on the little details. Jon's Patreon page is pretty sweet too.
yes yes yes, but does it chug?
@4:50 “Empyreal Pt. 2” 🤘🏼
Damn, I wasn't expecting that very first pull-off from the 12th to the 7th to be the hardest part of this. Damn you tiny pinky finger!
This is THE best sweep picking instruction and advice I've seen. I went from not being able to sweep at all to being able to sweep almost anything slowly and some easier stuff quickly because of this. You've really found a kickass teacher there Ola.
Nice the guitar #juveltv
– Let's do a to minute workout
-Sure
Video is 6 minutes long 😐
Ok, I have to be honest here. The way he said to hold the plectrum and the motion of the hand actually made my sweep sound clean for the first time. Holy shit. 5/5 Would sweep again.
Late to the party, but does this mean we'll hear Ola sweeping in his next album? (or Sunday riff challenge?) I think it'd be epic to see him go from "I suck at sweeping" to showing what maybe 1-2 months dilligent practice can do
Expecting instant results isn't gonna happen. Work pays off when you put in the work on anything, starting slow then building up. Best way to learn, on any instrument.
it's better to have position marks on the neck if you teach 🙂
Ive been playing for 27 of my 36 years on earth, that one correction of a downstroke on the lowest note blew my mind. Guess I can sweep now. Thanks Mr. John…And Ola.
Notice hes not using a floyd rose? Because they SUCK
Does he have to catch a plane or something? Slow the fuck down….my ear is not that great when there's two guitars playing with someone talking on top of it.
That purple one is nice. I wish the head-stock was the same color.
holy shit, the whole landing on the next string concept is the single most valuable tip no one has ever mentioned before
Why are they not plugged in?
Ola still playing with the knobs even tho the guitar ain’t plugged in
How do you actually practice with metoronome?
Instead of upstrokes, I just use hammer-ons and pull-offs
No it doesn't chug…
0:35 "esse é o famoso 16 toneladas"
Are you going to start doing a "will it sweep pick" segment?
So many amps, and no amp at all when you really need it!
I am no expert but I have been sweeping comfortably for a long time now and I tried this out. My 'newness' to this method aside, I feel like this is more complicated than the way that I learned it. With his picking technique your picking hand is almost always ahead of your left hand. Being that the main issue people seem to have with sweeping is keeping their hands in sync (and of course muting) this seems like added complexity by having one hand one step ahead of the other instead of simply together. The reasoning for the added complexity (as he stated) was (essentially) for a secure feeling to make sure you don't hit the wrong string but is that a problem people actually have when sweeping? It's always the next string so idk how you run into that problem. Not to mention this makes sweeping seem less fluid since its a series of bouncing to and stopping at the next string. Also turning around when you hit the low note but then suddenly skipping resting on the next string just seemed awkward.
Both of these guitarists are immensely talented and I'm not trying to take anything away from that. Also I always appreciate people willing to put out free lessons. I'm just curious if this method deserves some criticism.
That is one sexy looking guitar (Jon's one)
yo this guy is legit! thank you ola!
My ADHD would not let me understand a thing lol… dam..
