My brother was just convicted on being in possession of one of these. Also since he ordered online and they came from China, he was found guilty importing. Both are felonies. He was a federal air marshal for 20 years and a police officer prior to that. They used this against him and said he should have known, yet he had never used a silencer or had any training about silencers. If anyone else has gone against feds for possession or importing, please contact me. We are crushed. He never intended to convert them. The one that he received was unopen in a box marked "solvent tube". I am completely heart broken.

I like how he used the idea of a bar of steel to illustrate his point because I want to make similar T shirts. A block of aluminum and the words "Ghost Gun". I do not support ANY gun laws, period, BUT I do understand the intent behind some of them. Silencers are NOT on the list of laws I see the point of. I have a couple (handgun and rifle). They are more polite and easier on your hearing. That is why you are REQUIRED to have one on you car, mtc, etc. Take the silencer OFF your Harley, they get pissy. Put one ON your pistol, they get pissy.

young fella by your logic a semi auto ar15 receiver is 1 hole away from an M16 full auto receiver. ATF has never been specific on the cones just the end cap.

I did buy one. After I bought it with the intent of using it as a solvent trap, I realized I could Form 1 it and make it into a suppressor. I did so, and now I have registered Form 1 suppressor that is all Ti with my name on the side (since I was the manufacturer). I followed all the laws and I have my tax stamp. To be clear, and if you bought a HIT solvent trap (or any other solvent trap), did everything legal and registered it before you converted it to a suppressor, you don't have anything to worry about and should not destroy/get rid of your legal suppressor.

I just want to say this. NICS is run by the FBI. Gun sales are tracked and regulated by the FBI, NSA, and State Department, as well as state and local LEO’s. State safety boards oversee explosives in their states, the FBI, NSA, NTSB, and State Department track explosives nationally. Tobacco is regulated by state agencies, and HHS. Alcohol is regulated cross state lines by the FBI, and the Treasury Department. So exactly what the hell do we need the ATF for?

No, they don't care if it's close enough. They consider it a legal reason to pay you a visit and see what you're up to. I don't own a weapon, but I'm very familiar with the way these agencies work. It's just a trip wire electronically they can put down as a reason, along with any online rhetoric you may have posted, to get a warrant for your premises. That's all the "in" they need to search your phone contacts and activities to possibly flush someone out if not you. People are still in prison just for being at the capital in Jan. They don't need a heck of a lot of anything to lock you up. Intelligence is easy when your life leans on digital communications floating through the air for a well funded and technologically advanced agency such as ATF. Assume it's a trap.

One note; if you do have one from them and have properly form oned it, do not throw it away or destroy it as it is not illegal. Sorry to hear about Hawk, I agree suppressors aren't evil, it's just the movies that made them that way.

Both silencer and suppressor are right, the patent says “Silencer” therefore calling it that is not wrong.

It’s not a suppressor until it’s finished there’s no such thing as a 80% suppressor hahaha with lower receivers yes there is a 80% complete acceptance to sell them no that was already legally set in place with the atf the solvent trap in a solvent trap that you can use to trap the solids out of your solvents that just so happens if you drill the end out of this one it’s very similar to what a lot of suppressors or made of

If they have a warrant for your arrest that means they already have enough evidence or suspect you did what they think you did, and nothing you say will get you out of being arrested. So there is no point in talking to the Police. If they are asking you questions that means they don't really have good evidence and you shouldn't give them any by talking to them. So don't talk to the Police.

I don’t think you should get rid of it, I think if you’re worried you should destroy it, but KEEP THE PIECES. If you so concerned about owning the thing odds are you’re also concerned about the government coming to and searching your home. There is nothing in the law or warrant that requires them to believe you when you tell them it is destroyed. They can and probably will search your property anyway. If you have the pieces or device, away from the rest of your interesting possessions, and can present it willingly and immediately, you can reduce the time you’re dealing with the gestapo, and more importantly negate their search warrant because they have what it says they came looking for.
