IE 21 PC games review – Frankenstein (1995)

by admin

This is a nostagic review from IE (Interactive entertainment) episode 21 , a CD-ROM game magazine.

Frankenstein: Through the Eyes of the Monster is a graphic adventure computer game that stars Tim Curry as Dr. Frankenstein, and has the player controlling a newly created Frankenstein monster. Other cast members include Robert Rothrock as the voice of the monster, Rebecca Wink as villager Sara, and Amanda Fuller as Gabrielle, the monster’s daughter. It used full motion video clips and 3D CGI graphics similar to Myst. The game was developed by Amazing Media and published by Interplay Entertainment Corp for the PC and for the Sega Saturn in 1995. The game was given a “Teen” rating by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board, but was originally rated as K-A.

There are two situations in the game where the player’s actions decide the fate of a certain character, branching the game into multiple endings.

I still have my copy of this game (it was bundled with another FMV point-and-click adventure game, Mummy: Tomb of the Pharaoh). Fun, though the overreliance on mazes can be overwhelming. Plus it leaves me with a few unanswered in-universe questions (one in particular involves the ladder maze–how the hell can something so high fit in the underground areas of the game?)
