Defunct Games reviews Heaven’s Vault by inkle, available now on PlayStation 4, PC and Mac for $24.99.
Heaven’s Vault may not be especially easy to describe, but it’s one of the most rewarding games you’ll play this year. A simple missing persons investigation quickly turns into an exploration of hundreds of years of history and its impact on society and religion. This is a celebration of knowledge and discovery, giving us a deeply emotional story, as well as characters you’ll actually want to hang out with. From deciphering an Ancient language to piecing together Aliya’s past, there’s a lot going on here, and I couldn’t wait to see how it all played out. No matter if you call it a graphic adventure, puzzle game, interactive story or sailing simulator, Heaven’s Vault is an incredible journey that is unlike anything I’ve every played before.

It's a shame the dialogues disappear way too fast, really a shame for non native speakers.
Did you know the female character wears the hijab because the develops can be arrrsted If dont?
A piece of crap but sjws will love it
awesome
cheers
As an Atheist loner and a misanthrope, will this game kill me or cater to my very individual needs?
Good to see your review on the game, been curious about it, and i’ll definitely add i to my wish list.
As for the lore/ world, I would love to see more about Ivalice, Final Fantasy Tactics has one of the most compelling worlds of all time, would love to see a prequel or sequel to that! While it’s featured in FF XII to some extent, I always found the FFT take of it more interesting.
Ooo very intriguing game. I'd never heard of this so thankyou for putting it on my radar.
This looks great, I can’t wait to get into it this weekend. It seems like it’s a tough balance between deliberate travel and exploration and being a slog to make your way through a world. Many unique games seem to fall into the trap of travel becoming a slow moving obstacle – Sunless Seas/Skies, Where the Water Tastes Like Wine, and this is seems.
My favourite world is Sigil from Planescape Torment.
This game looks beautiful. Definitely going to get it once it gets its first significant sale. Had not really heard much about it so thanks for the heads up.
Qotd: This would probably be horrible in actuality but I wouldn't mind exploring Mega Man's world a bit more (particularly X's). It is probably just because I've spent so much time in it, and we only ever scratch the surface. We see bombed out cities after the Mavericks go rogue, but nothing about how the world was before that. How did robots and humans coexist before Willy's and/or Sigma's meddling? What was the economy like? The social dynamics? Was there some justification for a robot rebellion? Did us humans mistreat them? Could be interesting.
Hey Defunct, I loved this review into the game, great job, HV looks great, I don't know how you manage to spend so much time in such detail on these games, but thank you for doing so 🙂
Now that's an original game. Wish we had more of those.
As a lifelong horror aficionado, I’d definitely like to learn more about the world of Bloodborne. If Studio Madhouse were to do an OVA or limited series about this property, they could take my money.
Finally, PJ Harvey gets her own game!
For me, I'd want to know more about the lore in the Legend of Dragoon. There's tons in the game but I want to know more! I want to know everything! I've been asking for a sequel or prequel for 20 years and it hasn't happened yet. This is very saddening.
Interesting looking game. The 2D sprite on 3D background look has come a long way.
Qotd, I’d like to explore the monster hunter world. It’s so deep and the games themselves are pretty much you doing a ton of zoology and exploration.
I LOVE InkleStudios. They've made some of my most favorite games ever made , Sorcery! complete collection (BEST RPG EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and 80 days. Glad to see that they came out with another gem!
For me the most interesting world is from “Legend of Heroes” series of games.
This game looks boring..lol
