Movies to Video Games Review — Tomorrow Never Dies (PS1)

Movies To Video Games Reviews
Review #21

–This is a Fan Requested Review–

Tomorrow Never Dies, for the Sony Playstation, is fully reviewed and analyzed as compared to the actual movie itself.

Feel free to comment. More movies to video games reviews coming soon.. suggestions and feedback welcome and encouraged.

To save on space and time in the video, the score tallies and descriptions of how I got to the scores are listed here instead.

They are on a 1-10 scale with 10 being the best score possible:

Story Accuracy to the Movie 6.0
(For the most part it goes to the same locations and situations that the movie followed. But it also will go on many tangents that have nothing to do with the movie. Like skiing and an unrelated BMW shoot em up stages. It has the flavor of the story and even lines and scenes from the film but it really lacks in the over all picture as far as complete accuracy go.)

Music Soundtrack Accuracy to the Movie’s 5.5
(Tomorrow Never Dies theme and video are all here and found. And that is cool to see. The rest is pretty generic Bond’s type of music playing. The music isn’t bad but it isn’t accurate to the movie in many points, but also does have a lot of the classic Bond movie music score type sounds found. So not bad.)

Game Difficulty 4.5
(The game starts off pretty easy . It isn’t until about half way through that you start to die a lot and notice how cheap the enemies are getting suddenly. The awful play control makes things even worse due to how hard it is to line up shots or do actions. Its pretty middle of the road though for the most part. )

Overall Fun 4.5
(The first time through the game is kinda fun. Any fan of a good shoot em up in the 007 style will find fun here the first go around. After that though the replayability is almost non existant. Its fun for what it is but that’s the problem, it should have been much much more then it turns out to be and that leaves a pretty sub par experience.)

Final Score 5.25
Average

I was a fan of this game back in the day, but you are right, the turning circle is very slow and its quicker to roll out of the way and turn as you reach a safe spot. This means Bond is after rolling around in the dirt and snow like a dog trying to dry itself off. There are a few annoying parts, like the driving section, but at least the game is mostly on rails and you dont have too much talking around to do, or solve many hard puzzles, so I found this quite enjoyable. You may like The World is Not Enough on the PS1 if you prefer first person games, although its levels are far too short, and there is a gambling game added for no reason, but may be worth checking out. Some other of my movie favs on the PS1 include: Die Hard Trilogy, Alien Trilogy and The Italian Job.

8:31-The graphics themselves don't look that impressive. Everything is dull and box-ey looking.

Movies2Games, I enjoyed watching this video. You did a wonderful job reviewing the movie and the game. For me, I didn't like the movie much compared to some other 007 movies such as "Skywall" or "Moonraker." As the game, I own it and its one of those games I can play if I have 15 mins to spare. I do agree that the controls were a bit sucky. Overall, "Tomorrow Never Dies" for PS1 is a good game but not as good as "Goldeneye" on N64. This review deserves 5 stars.

I like it

You mentioned nothing except the Sheryl Crow song is heard from the OST, I found out (by goofing around) that after defeating Carver and during the cutscene hold Triangle and keep holding it after a while after the cutscene ends, you hear some random lines, once unused line, and the alternate Tomorrow Never Dies song not used in the movie. (Works on NTSC & PAL versions)

Good review of a crap game.

I wish someone would make a remake of this game. But ALOT better.

Good review. I found this game to be such a let down after playing Goldeneye on the N64. The movie was pretty cool though, John Pryce is always good value.

Stop bitching about the controls. You know that you can strafe with R2 and L2? That fiexes the problems you mentioned.

@Movies2GamesReviews Black Ops (the developer) didn't use the real names of the guns. They did that in TWINE to.

This, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Legend of Dragoon, and Toy Story 2 the Video Game are literally the only PS1 games I still own. 0_o But anyways, I literally got to the 5th level in this game, and as far as I can remember, I never got any farther. I could pop it out again...

Pierce Brosnan has always been my favorite James Bond :-)

I liked this game when it came out. Haven't played it in a while. When you talk about the controls a lot of third person shooters from the PS1 era suffered.

I don't like this game I think GoldenEye is still the greatest 007 game and movie adaptation ever made

this game was amazing

I really liked this game, despite its slightly annoying controls and item selection. The music was great and the graphics were ok, but with the PS1's lousy draw distance, it did sort of spoil it a bit. I'd love to see this one come out on the PC, where it could be done justice, but it will probably never happen.
