The Xbox 360 launched in 2005 with a unique dashboard known as the “Blades”. I still own one Xbox 360 console that was never updated and still contains the Blades Dash in all its glory. In this episode we take a look at what made the dashboard so popular with fans and how many have wanted to see it return.

Sometimes i feel like MVG is reading my mind.
The Blades interface reminds me of an updated version of the Dreamcast's interface in many ways. The use of color, the atmosphere, and the layout in particular. The wave effect in the background was very Dreamcast like.
I despise any program that uses tiles like this. So much more overwhelming to look at and find everything then something like the blade.
The only True next gen console
I just got the tetradui skin for kodi which was modeled on the 360 Blade Dashboard. I understand now why everyone liked the Blade Dashboard back in the day.
If you have an Xbox Live Arcade Compilation Disc, and insert it into an Xbox 360, it'll boot into a more primitive version of Blades where it'll only display games on the disc
Without a doubt, one of the greatest console GUIs .

I really like it because it kinda reminds me of the OG Xbox Dashboard.
I wish Microsoft and Sony would bring back some of their older GUIs for their newer consoles. I’d even pay for it

Man. Back when they made consoles for the end user and not the platform holders, publishers and advertisers. Looks better than any of the three currently available systems. I bought a PS3 for this era, but I’d say this is more elegant, yet playful, than the XMB.

Yeah, the pixelated 720p modern 360 UI text font was always jarring to me along with the removal of a dark mode option
The achievement listing is so much better, wtf
NXE was the best for me, I got the 4gb slim when it launched and the NXE was on its way out but I enjoyed it
i still remember my grandad had a xbox 360 with the blades dash. i dont think he ever connected it to xbox live till years later. but he was a big halo fan he used to tell me about how he'd spend all night playing halo 3 and how he was addicted to playing his xbox . he showed me halo as a kid and i ended up loving it. rip
I just bought an Xbox 360 mint in box from someone on eBay clearing out an attic of an elderly relative. I don't know what dashboard it is running or if it even works, but the manufacturer date is 17th July 2008. If I'm lucky and its never been connected to the internet, it should be running one of the final versions of the blades dashboard!

being able to listen to your playlist while you played any game was awesome. sometimes putting your own soundtrack to whatever game you wanted was awesome. i wish they brought that feature back
I swear the early-mid 2000s had the most fun from computer intefaces. Windows XP, Media Player 9, Xbox Blades, Wii, Vista Aero, it's certainly a lot more lively and varied compared to the simplicity and minimalism of the modern day.
I remember when my dad bought halo 3 odst in 2009. the game came with an update to upgrade to the newer dash board. This was before I had Xbox live so the dashboard never got updated until we put on the disc. I remember it changing and I was like noooo it’s gone 😢

Can you show us how to install blades dashboard on modern 360 consoles. It's possible.
I used the Media Center feature a lot back in the day to stream music from my PC to Xbox, rather than installing directly to the drive (due to space).

Nah bro, blades dashboard was peak 360. Although it does have the nostalgia factor to it as well.
I brought a red ring console repaired it just to get this dash back was well worth it brought me bsck too unboxing my childhood 360 back in 2007
Imagine if Microsoft brought back the Blades Dashboard as a Theme
I wish so badly they’d bring this back in some form. Even as a little easter egg nonsense screen,part of a test feature or something.
Unfortunately I never had this dashbaord because I got my 360 around 2007/8 I think and I only had the other 2 dashboards that came with the updates. (Which I like as well and definitely prefer them over the xbox one dashboard) but looking at the blades now I see why so many people miss it, it's definitely my favorite dashboard after the 2008 one.

I hated the blades design. Sorry, it was terrible. The final UI is much better.

Can you play latter 360 games on the blades dashboard? I think i can get a hold on one but i fear it wont be able to play a lot of games on old firmware

6:10 look at how smooth and clean it was to look at achievements… it was actually incredibly pleasing to navigate with the sounds too… it was ASMR levels of pleasure. And microsoft wonders how they are behind playstation and nintendo???? LOOK
