Netherite is made of a mixture of Tungsten and Carbon. Although gold does not seem like tungsten in the slightest, Tungsten and Gold are the two elements with the closest density to each other. In the crafting recipe, you mix gold, our Tungsten stand-in, with a scrap of metal and then put diamond, carbon, on that, which would make a substance stronger than diamond

I personally think that netherite is like diamond, but the extreme heat and pressure of the nether was so strong that it because the compressed strong material. And the reason that there is only ancient debris is that the wither took over the nether for long enough for the piglins to mine it all out to make armour that can defend themselves from the wither. But in the end, they died with the armor and tools and the netherite was buried deep into the netherrack once again.

Netherite IS found in chests. Treasure Bastions. It’s rare but you can find scrap AND ingots.
