Defunct Games reviews Antigraviator by Cybernetic Walrus, available now on PC and coming soon to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
While Antigraviator is certainly derivative of other futuristic racing games, it still manages to stand out from the pack. Part of the reason for this is because it nails the fundamentals, including tight controls, a great sense of speed and some of the best stages you’ll find in a racing game this year. I’m a little disappointed in the difficulty and simplistic single-player campaign, but if this is the developer’s first stab at making a racer, then I can’t wait to see what Cybernetic Walrus comes up with next.

Although the traps & boost pickups are cool,
it's a shame this game didn't have weapons.
at the end of the day, I have to go with GRIP since it has rockets and machine guns :D
The closest to Wipeout, and a currently unreleased title that you should keep an eye on is Pacer. Then there's BallisticNG, which is basically a carbon copy of the more classic Wipeout games. There's Redout, which is its own beast, having the greatest sense of speed on the market, and the opposite issue with difficulty as Anitgraviator. There's also Fast RMX, which is the closest game to Antigraviator, but is a Nintendo exclusive. And lastly my favourite, Grip: Combat Racing, which has the best environments and vehicles of the lot.
fast rmx is place 2
and antigaviator is place 3
redout is place 4
This one does look interesting, but I think for my between Wipeout Omega (in VR), and Fast Racing RMX… I kind of have my fill for futuristic racing action :)
Not sure how it holds up but I remember a pretty neat game called Scorcher on the Saturn.
I was soooo hyped for Formula Fusion but it just seems to lack something. I can't put my finger on exactly why. It's a weird one, for me...
This game looks great. I might pick it up in a couple of weeks. I'm unfortunately on a bandwidth limited connection so I can only download about 12gb a week when I go to someone elses house who has a slow connection but an unlimited one. (and currently two weeks to go downloading project cars 2...) I hope this game isn't very large in terms of filesize...
While my favorite future racer, objectively, is Sega's F-Zero GX, it's such a boring answer. I mean, it IS prime quality, but I'd rather say Star Wars Episode 1 Racer instead.... maybe Extreme-G 3 even, just to give a shout-out to one of the first high speed racers I really got sucked into that's, unfortunately, rather forgotten these days
This game reminds me of that Wii U game, FAST Racing Neo. Which is unsurprising as they seemingly share the same inspirations. How is the multiplayer? You mentioned it but unless I missed it I don't think you commented on how it performs online and what modes are included.
Will be adding this to my wishlist. Seems like it is worth the price, but I'm a broke ass writer and have to wait for everything to go on sale.
