Abhyankar (Amrish Puri) is an orthodox head of his family, a retired police officer, he has values which he wants his family to also uphold. As a result of his values, his daughter is unable to be forthright and is unable to introduce the young man (Anil Kapoor) she loves, and concocts a scheme whereby her father would approve of her lover. What results is quite hilarious

Its no surprise this movie released in 1998 was a complete disaster. Hrishikesh Mukherjee could not recreate his magic of 60s and 70s in 1998. ...with so many oversweet characters trying to be overly sanskari and nice in an era when sunny deol action movies, govinda's comedy movies, SRK's romance, akshay kumar's khiladi movies were ruling the box office, this movie looks so odd in 98. To top it all an elder anil.kapoor calling reema lagoo 'maa'. Amrish puri looks father of reema lagoo. Her orgasm when amrish puri's character slaps anil kapoor in the end looks so awkward. Anupam kher's character is david of 70s. Amrish puri trying to be utpal dutt, anil kapoor trying to be amol palekar. Perfect recipe for disaster which is what exactly happened with the movie. If this film was released in 70s era then it would have been more relatable not in 90s. This is a completely forgotten movie in an otherwise glowing career and classic movies of the legendary Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
