The growth of Tiktok has been exponential.
While it can be extremely entertaining, for fitness content this is why the app can be problematic…
𝟏. 𝐁𝐚𝐝 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞
No matter the social media site you go on, you will certainly encounter bad advice, however given Tiktok’s demographic combined with the way in which the algorithm works, bad advice is extremely prevalent.
What you want and what you need are often different things and unfortunately, Tiktoks main focus seems to be giving users what they want; quick fixes such as the lying towel exercise, lemon coffee and ab belts to name a few of these things.
𝟐. 𝐓𝐨𝐨 𝐌𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐈𝐬 𝐁𝐚𝐝
While short and simple fitness content is lacking, absorbing too much content, often crammed into seconds probably isn’t the best idea.
Firstly; ‘everything should be made as simple as possible but no simpler’, when creators are given seconds to try and stand out on the platform this often results in oversimplification and miscommunication.
Secondly, there are many concepts in fitness which just cannot be explained in seconds.
When you receive most of your information in small fragments, it can be very difficult to understand the relative importance of each. You simply cannot go deep enough into many important concepts with tiktok which is why you should get your information from a range of places.
𝟑. 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐈𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥
All social media sites are competing for your attention, often engaging in questionable activities to achieve this. The data points towards tiktok being the best at establishing addiction amongst their users.
And this addictive side of tiktok is something everyone needs to be aware of.
(Pls ignore the misspelling of exercises, somehow missed that one😅)

At the end of the day, many of them are just trying to help/entertain/used slightly flippant wording).

3:11 that's why YouTube is better than tiktok
Those tens machines do work to be fair 🤷♂️ I use them for knee recovery and they can make your muscles look more pumped
Tik tok itself is a problem
Social media is a weapon, aimed at the worlds head
I thought social media couldn't get dumber… I'm actually afraid of the teens going through this BS.
"if it don't hurt, it don't work"
-Tom Platz I guess
The big issue is that even though fitness is more popular than ever, the general population is still clueless through no fault of their own. If you dont know anything it kinda makes sense that doing x and y ab exercise will reduce stomach fat, certain foods will make your body burn fat quicker etc. Anyone can use fancy words and convince someone who knows nothing about a topic purely by speaking with confidence and sounding like an authority on the topic
tiktok took fitness science back 50 years when all this crap was mainstream.
what do you edit on?
Usual antichina gibberish. Tik tok is bad but stealing data is something western social media have been doing since the late 90s lol
I can't tell if you're ignorant, trying to pump these YouTube videos out and lacking the time to do research, or are maliciously pushing misinformation, but these videos are making me upset. I'm just gonna tell YouTube to hide you from my feed and hope you aren't pushed on me in the future. 😂
I did fall into that when I started. but didn't take so long until i switch to the right path and see imidiate change
I do not respect people who use TikTok
Good for me i dont use tik tok, never had never will.
If you take any advice from tiktok, you're not the sharpest tool in the shed to start with
You're a western simp. It's funny how te western countries is so severely against tiktok, calling it addictive while the west has equally if not worse social media. IG, YouTube, Facebook, snapchat etc

If I am in a restaurant with an all-you-can-eat buffet, I'm choosing the most expensive items to get the most value for my money 😂
Good luck eating 30$ worth of vegetables, salad, noodles, rice or pizza. I stick to meat and seafood.
Wow…. This is two years old and has JUST as much relevance today lol
china is really good in modern warfare. "the art of war"
I don't even use TikTok. Honestly I believe it's dpyware. Not to mention all of the stupidity that stems from it.
Am I the only who never downloaded/used Tiktok?
I don't like tiktok and will never install it
Great video, deep, insightful and thought provoking. My advice to the fitness followers and younger gen is this; get ride of TikTok as it is pure poison for your mind and soul. You can find what you need in far better format with more context on youtube and other online forums. TikTok is neurologically toxic for the brain and cannot be consumed in "moderation." Just get ride of it, you'll thank yourself later.
8:11 that guy is the representative of fake nattyes, and i am so sorry you felt for his bs.
I don’t have a tik tok. YouTube all day
Nothing makes me sad like the modern attitude towards fitness. You should be excited every day to improve your strength and chase new goals in the gym, not cringe away from effort and delayed gratification.
The fact that anyone takes advice from tictok is sad.
Indians..thanx govt for saving us from social covid
