Science-fiction is all about big ideas and pushing boundaries, but since the genre is so open-ended, it’s also filled with stories that go a bit too far, especially on the big screen. Sci-fi cinema can certainly be sweet and kid-friendly, but it’s also home to some of the most nightmarish sequences ever committed to celluloid. Unlike straight horror, there’s an awe-inspiring and mind-bending element to disturbing sci-fi, and it often takes viewers to some pretty twisted places. Even if you go in expecting it, there are times when you get a little more than what you bargained for. Here are a few sci-fi movies that went too far.

Fire in the Sky wasn't made to cash in on the popularity of the X-Files. What a dumb thing to say.
THEY ARE FEDING OF THE PORE, JUST NOT FOR LONG.
ALTERED STATES WAS NOT William Hurt's film debut.
Released to tie-in to the x-files……omfg you people
Under the Skin was quite disturbing, left you thinking.
Not a Horror Sci-fi film but if you want to be completely freaked out try the Japanese horror thriller 'Audition'. Its a slow burn but by god it left me scarred for life!
Color Out of Space was the dumbest movie I've seen. The fact that it killed everyone except for one person is unbelievable. It clearly had him in its sights, there is no way he should have survived.
It did have Tommy Chong in it 🥰
Altered States is one of my favorite movies. I watched it when it came out. Yes I was underage. My grandfather was the projectionist. I got to watch a lot of movies.
In the first one. Why would aliens do experiments like that? There is no purpose and nothing to gain. If they did anything it would be more like on Star Trek Next Generation where they severed limbs and re-attached them or Star Trek Voyager.
Fire in the Sky is based on REAL EVENTS.
No movie can "go too far", if anything, they could be boring. which is worse.
surprised not to see event horizon here
This nothing compared to Galaxy of Terror. That went out there. But was a great film
Altered State sounds very similar to M K Ultra.
Thank you, I missed those movies, now of course I am going to watch them with my little niece. This is the best publicitiy ever 🙂
cinema critique based on nothing.
i unironically loved color out of space. it has such a liminal feel to the entire thing.
Am I the only one not wigged out by Fire in the Sky? really good movie…but I feel like Communion with Walken was a freakier movie that left me shook as a kid more than FITS did. =b
I've seen a couple of them, the others im glad i didn't..
Holy shit.. I watched The Thing when I was a little kid, maybe 8 years old or so. It was a huge mistake 😂
Sounds like our near future.😢
