1) Jaws (1975)
No surprises here, this one is one of the first and also the best. The only thing wrong with this movie is the fact that mechanical shark’s design hasn’t aged that well. The characters are likeable and interesting, the story is well paced and entertaining, the score is iconic and despite technically being a horror movie, it’s also pretty funny.
2) Deep Blue Sea (1999)
Once again, very little is wrong with his movie aside from the dated effects and some of the dialogue. Other than that, this movie is pretty good. Instead of playing out the repetitive “killer shark terrifies beach-goers” Deep Blue Sea changes things by crafting the story into a prison escape from a genetically modified monster. That’s WAYY more interesting and deserves points just for attempting something different, but it gets better because he movie is actually good. The characters are mostly interesting, the story is entertaining and the music is pretty good.
Jaws 2 (1978) is a completely unnecessary sequel and makes no sense given how unlikely it was for there to be a gigantic bloodthirsty shark was in the first movie anyway, but aside from that it’s still pretty good. The setup is slightly different from the first film and I’m glad they didn’t just play it out in exactly the same way. The ending is also pretty epic where Brody full on electrocutes the shark with the might of Zeus on crack.
Honorary mention: The Shallows (2016) is also pretty good compared to a lot of the Shark movies out there, or even on this list. It’s a survival movie that happens to feature a shark is the primary antagonist and showcases the horrors of the ocean in their complete uncensored glory. The one thing that also sets this movie apart from the other ones I have on my list is that the effects are so much better and the Shark actually looks and behaves like a shark.
