The Desert Tech MDRX – Is It “Tomorrow’s Weapon”?

I finally got my hands on the Desert Tech MDRX. Mine is chambered in 5.56 with the 16” barrel. This video is obviously dedicated to the MDRX but stay tuned for the comparison between the five bullpups I have. Big thanks to Silencer Shop for sponsoring this video!

Heard a lot of good things about these. The problem is that at this point, the IWI Tavor X95 pretty much has the bullpup market on lock (I have one), so it’s pretty hard for Desert Tech to compete.

Does the forward eject cause expelled cases to hit the magnifier when its shifted out of use?

I have the 2nd Gen MDR….. pre MDRX, Post 1st Gen.

It works well, a pin in the but stock keeps coming loose….other than that its a winner for sure in the .308 ….. housing Eotec 512 and magnifier 3x.
Eotec is not a red dot…. It’s holographic ….. 10 times better than a red dot of other brands.

why would they bother to make a Wylde and a 5.56 barrel?
@invaderjoshua6280 May 29, 2024 - 2:46 pm
No. The bullpup design puts the chamber next to the users head drastically increasing the level of danger in the case of a bad malfunction. It also just like every weapon expels toxic gas. This gas in traditional weapons is far enough from the user where it doesn't cause issues. With the bullpup you have to be very aware of said gas being expelled. This all together with the fact the rifles center of control is not immediately at eye level when lifted is why the US military chose a traditional design again instead with the Spear.

I would buy one.

Got a MDRXCOM (CA edition) in .308 with a Vortex Razor gen 3 scope. Also have the .223 Wylde kit. Both are 20" barrels. I don't like the AR series rifles. But I like the Desert Tech designs. My other rifles are bolt and lever action. My shotguns are mostly bullpup.

Would you say it suppresses quieter than a normal ar because the ejection port is nearly all the way closed?

Great video. How do I get over the aversion to polymer? That's the only thing stopping me from getting one of these. Also, does anyone know if there are plans for .277 Fury conversions for it?

Dude beat that trigger like it owed him money!
@louisdelaporte2637 May 29, 2024 - 2:46 pm
You complained about the forward ambi mag releases. Did you know there is a mag release just forward of the magwell? Very easy to use with the hand you are changing magazines with.

That is a sexy gun! Ive been an AR guy but really want a Desert Tech or a Tavor X95 but such a tough choice! Really just need to shoot them and see which feels better.

Weird how even after all these years some of them run, and some of them bend rounds in half and jam every other shot.

I got my MDR-X 2020 and the mag release was kinda stiff too. But it got better after a while. The trigger and action is way better than my X95 and Steyr AUG hands down.
@Bshwag May 29, 2024 - 2:46 pm
the fact that it can take a larger mag Makes me want to get one. I could set this up to shoot some exotic custom rounds
