The Original Xbox turned 20 years old the other day and it was an impressive system when it released in 2001. The modding scene has continued to grow for the Xbox, but now a new modification for HDMI has made the system much more current for 2021 and modern displays.

I'm looking to buy one now, simply so I can play the best football game ever made. ESPN NFL 2K5.
I recommend getting the Suffering series if you can, the 2nd game isn't really any different than the first but it's a fun game that feels like Silent Hill and Doom mixed together
Gost Recon online was the first time playing online! Blew my mind
I finally got xbox original power it up works good 👍
I own a working Xbox original and like 50+ games………
Xbox is only good if you get a ntsc version. Pal only supports 480i and 576i. No progressive scan.
Besides the games, I remember I used to also get the Officla Xbox Magazine demo discs once a month and remember so many different game demos on them that I absolutely enjoyed
I find it bs that you need licensing for making a game backwards compatible. Its just letting the disk that has already been paid for licensing work on the new system
I know this is old video but one thing you didn't do you should do with all non 1.6 mobos. Remove the click capacitor
I bought a xbox that was softmodded with Unleash X and given a 1TB SDD hard drive. I don't have the technical skills to make a hard HDMI change, but I did the the component cables AND a top quality HDMI converter – both of which look fantastic. I installed most of the games in the Xbox library onto the hard drive. I still own all of my original game discs and boxes (over 40 in total) from my days playing it originally. However, having games installed directly to the hard drive without worry of disc read errors or maintenance and NONE of the money of buying a physical disc ever going into the hands of the creators anyway, i have no remorse for downloading the remaining titles I don't own physical copies of.
I just recently got my third original Xbox. Completely serviced, has a OpenXenium Modchip and it has a wii2hdmi internal mod that has a nice image. Nice 500gb drive with ide to SATA Adapter and 80 pin ide cable.
I love the Xbox it has a really nice library and thanks to Insignia we can finally experience proper multiplayer on the og xbox since the shutdown of Xbox Live 1.0 (i know xlink Kai is a thing but some games don't even have system link)
Have you considered soldering on more memory?
This Xbox looks so great in 32 inch TV … If you use it in bigger TV's it's loose graphics ..
I think the value of an original XBox as investment could be very dependent on whether there is a re-release(s).
Can you give a link for the hdmi port?
I was 17 when the OG Xbox came out in 2001… Man, those were some better, simpler times, I'll tell you what. There was none of this pay-to-win bs, no overly long download wait times, and sure as hell no loot box nonsense. It was just me and the boys, a pizza from Domino's and games like Halo 1 and the OG Star Wars Battlefront after a crappy movie from Blockbuster. Damn, those were the days and I miss the fug outta them.
I want to get an original Xbox but I'm hesitant to get one locally because I heard capacitors leak after a few year or something. Does anyone have any advice? I don't care about modifications or anything.
That looks effin' amazing. I'm not gonna solder anything myself. I'll mail into stoneagegamer & hapily pay them a 150 bucks and get it done without any worries. Nice work man. Can't wait to get mine back in the mail.
Thank you pointing out how easy it is to open the Xbox. I was watching an Xbox 360 disassembly tutorial one time and the guy was saying how much easier it is to get a 360 open than an original Xbox and I'm thinking "you've opened them, yourself, so you know how untrue what you're saying is". So weird. What other console is this easy to take apart, (excluding earlier generations, I know the PS1 and N64 were easy to take apart).
I think it would be much easier to just get some HD Component cables for your OG Xbox and run that to a Component to HDMI adapter then to your TV. I don't need this adapter because I run it to a Component Splitter/Selector then to my HD Projector that has Component input. Buying a modded OG Xbox for cheap… doing a 1TB HD swap…. then loading it with all your collection is good times. Was playing some Rainbow Six 3 earlier today.
Does anybody realize how are they talking to each other
I was just playing me some Genma Onimusha a short time ago. It was trying to get someone to look at the capacitors on it.
I miss the original xbox.
Have more fun on my 2tb origins modded xbox than I have had on my xbox x
Did you know that the Original has an option for widescreen by default in the settings for flatscreen TVs
Boring
Love this game console. Thanks for the post, buddy.
Im still playing on the OG Xbox…currently Max Payne 2, Panzer Dragoon Orta and Ninja Gaiden Black 😀 But i also enjoy the original picture quality. Reminds me of my childhood….it has its own charm. If I want great quality, i can switch to my xbox one…so why modding the OG 🙂
That nasty sticker has too go and you have too replace all capacitors while you have it apart
You have too upgrade the harddrive so you can download every game it can be done then its disc less console
How rare and valuable is the clear green Xbox I just brought one today for 100 gpb
The hard drive ohhh Mann the nostalgia it’s just like a pc all the stuff I can save on there My fav was the music😇
I brought the orginal xbox with a bundle of 8 games and 2 controllers
And I brought 4 games separately
It's coming tomorrow so halo time tomorrow
The original XBOX was the first game console I bought at a used video game store which I paid $40
i started collecting og xbox games about year ago because the timing seems to be about right
Still the only way to play Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance is with an original Xbox
I got one back in 04 and had it hard moded with a 160 gig hdd. Still going strong. 🤙🤙
I'm probably get one or wait till I get internet in my house because of the xbox series x drm impossible to play original xbox games offline
So i dont see any difference from the 3 prong and im keeping it all original even if it dies ill buy a tampered one to compare also cleaning any xbox system is more difficult then a playstation all gens my opinion
The controller was a game changer .( Not the Duke ) It took the Dreamcast controller and evolved it into something we still consider normal today ! Such a great part of gaming history . I still have mine with the clock removed . It works flawless
You can still find av port in modern tv's
Just got mine from my moms. Hasn't been used over a decade and works just fine. Got most of the games I want for it. Only game I need is def jam ffny. Game runs for like $150 now. Hopefully the old copy is still at my moms.
The original xbox is the best xbox
The Xbox 360 was OK I just didn't like the white and Gray color
Dude I just picked up one for 60 bucks. I was lucky to find it especially for $60 when I’ve seen prices have gone up to like $100 plus
I refurbish these and there is no need to repaste the processors… plus they have an av out to hdmi that gives you 720p resolution…… no need to put an hdmi out on the board…. waste of time
That would be awesome to overhaul the whole thing. 😀
I never had an original Xbox but I had 2 friends of mine that did
Can't believe this came out before I was born. I still have mine, but I haven't used it in a while.
If Live still existed, I'd buy an original xbox again. I'm not into the modern consoles. They got way too complicated and lost something along the way.
I just wish I knew someone who could install this for me
