Review: TheNightfall (PlayStation 4 & Switch) – Defunct Games

by admin

Defunct Games reviews TheNightfall by Visual Imagination Software, available now on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

From the boring location to the lack of scares to the way they spell the title as a single word, there’s nothing good about TheNightfall. It’s a broken and frustratingly random horror game with puzzles so nonsensical that you probably won’t even realize you’re supposed to be looking for a solution. This is a game with never-ending frame rate problems, comically long load times, questionable voice acting, an aggressively lame story, zero scares and the worst pop-in problem since Daytona USA on the Sega Saturn. TheNightfall is easily the worst horror game of the year.

A YouTuber said that he hasn't posted a video of him playing it mainly because of how trash it was, after watching this video I still would have liked the YouTuber to have posted a video, it probably would have been funny but I can understand where he was coming from now.

Thanks for the review I was thinking of picking up this on ebay, but after seeing the review it looks like I won't be paying 40 bucks for this. Thank you.

@renerodriguez9055 May 23, 2024 - 4:18 pm

I wish there were other reviews of this game available. This particular review is not to my taste and i want to learn more.

Saludos

Just saw it on sale for $8.99, gonna have to pass, thanks for suffering so we don’t have to. This is the worst horror game I’ve seen, nothing I’ve played compares

@davenunya May 23, 2024 - 4:18 pm

I couldn't get a certain event to occur so I could continue, I bailed, PS 4

@chaiam May 23, 2024 - 4:18 pm

40 dollars? Currently on eBay for averages£230 and not in the PlayStation digital store. Never mind it doesn’t look that great. Good video.

This is helpful.

I wish I would've watched this before buying the game, I mean it's a decent game until every time I look around she continues to GLITCH, I wish they would've did better with the whole game, I can't even enjoy the game cause the player keeps glitching like she having a fucking seizure, yea Im deleting this game, can't believe I waisted my money

@bigdanger8246 May 23, 2024 - 4:18 pm

Shit I just wasted $15 dollars😒😁😁

@rma8983 May 23, 2024 - 4:18 pm

Ty for this review! You saved me money

@adriannaamato9833 May 23, 2024 - 4:18 pm

Thank you. Even for 15 bucks (it’s on sale) I can get more value for a better game. I’m gonna pass on this one.

@triggahappyyt5420 May 23, 2024 - 4:18 pm

I think they based it too realistically, a ghost wants to you solve something but doesn't tell you what it wants by triggering random events lol.

@brianc7282 May 23, 2024 - 4:18 pm

Well, it's painfully clear you didn't like this game 🤣 and not without good reasons. This actually brings me to asking you a question of the day as well. I've been following you for a bit now and I trust your reviews on whether or not to make countless purchases. Which brings me to it, what games do you actually like?

There seemed to be a learning curve to your reviews when I first came across your channel. I would start to hear a game have promise and then there would be a barrage of negatives being distributed shortly after. Perhaps this can be argued as remaining unbiased. Then again I've heard some reviews where you really don't have any negatives, or they were perhaps small quibbles.

I know you've played quite a bit of games just based on your channel alone, but if you could possibly throw out some titles you genuinely enjoyed just to have a rule of thumb what makes a great game to you I would love to see that list. If that conflicts with what you're doing here on the channel then by no means do I expect you to do that.

On to the qotd as well as a reason to why the game is retailed differently on two different platforms. I would say if we're going based on the genre of the game supposedly being horror then I vote for deadly premonition on PS3. As a game by itself or from a technical standpoint I don't recall it being bad exactly, but I just couldn't get into this cult classic game. The enemies aren't a threat as they murmur "don't kill me" or "I'm dying" as you let em have it, which IDK about everyone else, but that really took me out of it. Perhaps it is simply meant to be a tongue in cheek 4th walk breaking game, but aside from some interesting boss chase scenarios it wasn't tense or scary, more bizarre and unique I suppose.

The short answer to the latter question is because Nintendo can and perhaps always will. Nintendo from my memory has always cost more, even if only a few dollars and possibly it's the process of developing for the platform itself due to their hardware not being as dev friendly as PlayStation or Xbox? I've heard that when searching the milky way everyone calls the internet and perhaps it's that, or Nintendo is greedy as the ever growing, soon to be a monopolized company, Disney?

Maybe I'm getting too far off the path, but Nintendo has always been a company to keep their titles priced high even years, if not decades after the fact. Good luck getting a Nintendo greatest hits collection like PlayStation has had for generations. Great review as always. 😁👍

Theresia dear emile was one of the few m rated ds games. I played it and it was not great, between stupid puzzles and repetitive gameplay.

@gman2015z May 23, 2024 - 4:18 pm

The graphics and gameplay make it look like some PC game like Nancy Drew that came out in 2000, maybe 2006 the latest.

@leefamily5986 May 23, 2024 - 4:18 pm

The screen tear is tangible in this game, I hate it when games come out like this on console.

@karlosthehawk3730 May 23, 2024 - 4:18 pm

The YouTube channel Ranton review of this game just makes you piss ya pants with laughter its a 1st class video this game is not ment to be a serious ghostly game its basically a big joke what needs to be played when having a drink but make sure your drunk enough to get the ending haa because thats the punchline it gets you laughing when you realise its one big joke

@clayton_games May 23, 2024 - 4:18 pm

Good to skip

@Brandonp76 May 23, 2024 - 4:18 pm

Good work, as always. It’s very much appreciated.

@joefell5311 May 23, 2024 - 4:18 pm

Wow! If you had not told us this was for PS4/Switch I would have assumed it was PS3 or even PS2. Hot garbage!

@JenMistress May 23, 2024 - 4:18 pm

Yeah, that does look bad. Worse horror game I played. Hmmmm. 🤔 Well, there was a text based game I played one time called Silence of the Lambs. It was a game that no matter what you tell it to, it won't work, unless you type in "Silence lambs" then you automatically win the game. That has to be the worse game, or the most brilliant, depending on how you look at it.

@falion May 23, 2024 - 4:18 pm

And to think there was a time when I thought there weren’t enough horror games!

While probably not the worst horror game I’ve played, I was very disappointed by White Day for PS4 after hearing about it being some legendarily horrifying Korean game. It was poorly-paced and more frustrating than scary.

@cyberpunknut1099 May 23, 2024 - 4:18 pm

After PT seemed like this would start a trend but there were plenty of these type of games before it where you just wander around a house.

QOTD, man this is one I could go on forever over this. Main reason, devs seem to think putting scary things in a game makes it scary and they suck for different reasons. Friday the 13th on the NES just plain sucked. The Letter you just walked around collecting letters and a lot of nothing happens. Michigan Report From Hell you sort of walk around and have little control over things, it's barely a game. A lot of the VR games are pretty much you walking around and having people talk to you while seeing things happen like The Inpatient. Most recent worst would be Amy, which sucked because it controlled like crap and the stealth didn't actually work.

@destho4308 May 23, 2024 - 4:18 pm

Dang…a dark age has loomed upon thee and 40 being a cost of fee.

@PenguinDT May 23, 2024 - 4:18 pm

Well, technically it isn't horror, but horror-themed – but still, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z. It is hands down the worst game I played on the previous generation of consoles. It is the only time I've ever been so mad at a game that I had to stop playing, in fear of me doing damage to the console or the TV. I stepped back I started to analyze why that is, realizing that the only things that DID work well in the game were the graphics (when you could see them) and the soundtrack by Grant Kirkhope. The soundtrack is the only reason I didn't throw the game to the bin – the version I got from the bargain bins came with the CD soundtrack – which is billion times better than the game.

@Thejjone May 23, 2024 - 4:18 pm

40$ what the heck
