So many people were so confused about the lyrics! 😂 Youve never pretended you were fine when you were actually really sad or depressed?? I'm so depressed (maybe if there was a ' but' here it would help) I act like it's my birthday everyday. She's a huge musician who has to play shows for thousands of people every night no matter how shitty she feels. Lights camera bitch smile. Fake it till you make it. I can do it with a broken heart. She's miserable but still putting on her best performance.

@laurawilkins1577 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

The guy talking in the background is like the stage manager because she’s talking about being on stage in the Eras Tour

@clarity1984 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

This song is such a masterpiece. I can't understand those who complain about the rhythm. That's the whole point! How she presented to the world and kept going 'business as usual' when feeling like dying on the inside. It's such a clever song.

@mizzmarzie2912 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

Thabks for another video. I like that you talk about the production as i focus on lyrics myself and its nice to hear insight onbthe production. It teaches me to appreciate the mysic in a different way.

I think the lyric "i act like its my birthday everyday" is her pretending shes happy just to put a brave face on and fake happeness day to day (at her eras tour).

I think this poppy production is neant to be over the top happy on purpose. Because thats what the song is about, pretending and faking happeness to cover up a broken heart. The ivertop oroduction is so happy it sounds fake happy, if that makes sence.

Thanks again fir the content. Suoer interesting and educational!

@robertthompson7242 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

She had to ACT like it was her birthday, because she was on tour already when the breakup happened. She still had to make it good for the fans; the show had to go on. Stagecraft, right?

@anabelleh2069 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

She’s always a singer songwriter no matter what type of music it is

@Crystal.Michy. May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

3:00 I love that you’re commenting on production more because you’re pointing out stuff I would have never thought about before so I appreciate it because it lets me appreciate Taylor’s music even more 🤌🏻

@coleymarie79 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

If you take it literal .. she was so depressed but jumping and acting like it was her birthday when she was performing.

@landm2001 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

I love your reactions. You should check out her lyric video because it has footage of her Eras tour. As others have said, this is about her performing with a broken heart.

@juliemedina9698 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

Great review, been gone a bit but I’m back Thanks Jacob!

@NYheartinAZ May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

I took the line about her birthday as a reference to “All Too Well” and how she was so depressed on her 21st birthday because her boyfriend never bothered to show up. That’s why “22!” was such an upbeat song because she was redoing her birthday memories from the awful time of the prior year. It was a huge and happy party/video/vibe.

@kristenumansky8855 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

You gotta be into the Taylor swift “lore” to fully appreciate this song I think. I think it’s one of the best on the album because it captures such a specific feeling of attending the eras tour but giving us her perspective of faking it through because of the heartbreak she was experiencing over the summer. The song is perfection.

@melinarios981 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

I think the birthday lyric is a reference to "Its my birthday and ill cry if i want to" by leslie gore.

@cassandras1688 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

It’s weird people don’t get acting it’s her birthday is to keep from falling into a pit of despair by using a day that supposed to be happy and exciting to make you get up and function – the whole fake it til you make it vibe

@couldbahappychic1217 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

People always taking shit about her songs sounding the same .like how????.. the lakes and this do not sound the same worse yet so long london and this does not sound the same

@_supernova7 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

as a life long swiftie, this song hurts so much. like she was suffering so much when we were all so excited. it hurts me

@ladyvader139 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

I don't know too many Swifties that are also Nine Inch Nails fans, but this song reminds me of "Everything" and "Less Than". Highly suggest everyone listen to those tracks.

@jeanmarie9797 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

I'm so depressed I act like it's my birthday, everyday = Fake it till you Make it!

@twiffidy May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

“I’m so depressed I act like it’s my birthday every day” like a massive overcorrection to give the illusion she’s fine

@Jamiemar21 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

As you age you dont want your birthday to come because its depressing lol

@cinnamon-animation May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

It's a track 13, which are usually personable to Taylor directly. The fact that it follows loml correlates to breaking up from a 6yr relationship and immediately going on tour and performing. I love how this song makes me want to cry and dance simultaneously. 💔📸😁

@totally3totally May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

I love your focus on music! I feel like we need this side of the discussion. There is a lot focus on lyrics but the production of these songs are 100% worthy of analysis.

@wckdend9317 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

this song is about performing at the eras tour after her and joe broke up

@kerrbear834 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

I’ve been really enjoying your reactions and I like that you focus on the production more. I feel so many people focus too much on Taylor the person and miss out on the actual art she makes. Because she’s so good at her craft. That’s why it frustrates me when people criticize her music then admit they have never listened to it because they read too much into what the media says about her.

@msandsss May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

This is about her being broken hearted during the Eras tour. Lots of little eggs in the song. Like she’s sad like it’s her bday is referencing her 21st birthday mentioned in All Too Well and other songs.

@nicoleearp6229 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned it but Taylor likes to follow up her most heart wrenching songs with bops. You can see this on some of her albums. For example on Midnights “Bigger than the whole sky” is followed up by “Paris.

@amycope7970 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

I think the depressed birthday line has a couple of layers.
1. Hiding a depressive state by being outwardly over the top happy and excitable (think Robin Williams)
2. She mentions alcohol, drinking too much many many times throughout the album so possibly covering up her depression by acting like its her birthday drinking, partying every night

@violetstorm8451 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

Sometimes when you’re so deep in depression, after many times, and working your ass off, you are faking it but also kinda delirious too 😅. Been there😂.

@user-gp9es3rd3e May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

This song is like her inner monologue when she's performing on tour while also dealing with emotional turmoil lol. She's performing through the pain!

@terryturkington1293 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

21st birthday depression when “he” was a no show

@jenbraun6583 May 15, 2024 - 5:06 am

Love your reactions to ttpd! Sayville, NY here, pretty cool coming across your channel through TS of a fellow LI’er!
