Welcome to the first episode of “The Others”, a look at game engines that are a bit less popular. Today we are looking at Panda3D, an open source C++ engine scripted using Python that was developed by Disney.

Think Panda3D looks sweet and want to get started? Be sure to check out our just released Getting Started video, it walks you through installing first Panda then Render Pipeline.

It Looks cool, can you run functional languages in it? Better looking than minecraft or roblox with that pipeline addon. Also i think both pygame and love engine are 2d so with this it is even 3d. Can it transfer to Godot?😮

"HOOOOOLY SHIT!" (shit shit sh .it s.t s .it .it…)
So stupid. Why would there be an entirely different software called render pipeline instead of just updating their graphics
Business Opportunity in Ruvol
I have invented a Board Game [still unpublished and not yet out in the market] that I believe is guaranteed to be as challenging and exciting as CHESS. I called it “RUVOL.”
It is my hope that one day Ruvol may surpass chess as the “Number One Board Game in the World.”
The weakness of chess is it always starts in fixed positions that the opening moves become “memorizable.” In fact, not a few have so mastered the moves that they can play against their opponents “blindfolded.” It is for this very reason that the great Bobby Fischer introduced his so-called “Fischer Random Chess,” where the starting position of the pieces is “randomized” to make the memorization of openings impracticable. Fortunately, it is also for this reason that I invented Ruvol where “every game” has been calculated to be a challenging one to play.
HOW IS RUVOL PLAYED and HOW YOU CAN MONETIZE IT?
I detailed everything in my YouTube video. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcqth0m3-R0
BIG MONEY POTENTIAL IN RUVOL!
It is worthwhile to note that the people who play chess will be the same people who will play Ruvol. In my Google search, I learned there are around 800 million chess players in the world. Even just a small percentage of these 800 million is good enough to earn big money from Ruvol either as an ONLINE GAME BUSINESS or as a PHYSICAL PRODUCT DISTRIBUTOR.

Big misconception: Panda3D is an SDK, not a Game Engine. It's basically LWJGL but for Python
I want to make a minimalist quad copter simulator like Liftoff with just one map, and establish some kind of beachhead. I hate c#, but love python. It's been a while though. I've been burned so many times though adopting a game platform system or development environment, only to have the company pull the rug out from under me and discontinue it. Microsoft Quickbasic. EA Battlefield 2 series. Etc. It's nice they provide the source code and an integrated environment, but what are the chances this will just be abandoned and become abandonware and the anchor that sinks my project and all my work 15 years from now? Crushed by Unity or something else and the developers just throw up their arms and say, yeah, we give up? fpv.air-war.org
Please update this for the new Panda3D
Yo bro I am facing a problem (Could not find cxx flag, please run the setup.py) I can't find a solution help please it is happening when i am trying to load (ppython main.py)
Panda3D Is Looking Kinda Old. Its Graphics Is Bad And No Shading. Is This Because The Examples Are Old Or Its Not Good At Shading, Lightning, Shadows, etc. Its Looking Like Its 2005's Game Framework
my com not good it lag
Amazing!
It would be great to update this topic and describe how it has been evolved.
doesn't get the att bc disney sucks the world
i've used panda3d since 2012 (ver. 1.7.x) was great
i'm gonna use it cause i'm gonna learn only python so this engine is for me.
So is it just coding? Can't you see live what you are doing in 3d like unity or unreal engine?
>>>>> NOTE FOR NEW-COMERS <<<<<: The website has a new look. Check it out and it's pretty amazing.
I didn't know Panda3D was developed by Disney! I will download this very soon!
What's best using Unreal Engine, Godot or this?
They really called it render pipeline and not render pypeline? Bruhhhhhh
Why am I not subscribed to this channel since a long long time??!!!
Wow in 2018??? I am suprised
Thank you very much for showing off this engine. It was very informative. I am learning python for the eventual robotics programing, so this looks like a fun way to test coding in python!
panda3d is on PyPi so you can easily use it with Python virtual environments and is just a "pip install" away.
Would love to see a recent game tutorial on this engine. Even willing to pay money for it for example on Udemy 🙂 Tried this engine a year or two ago and because of my limited knowledge at that time it was just too difficult… Need to check this engine again.
looks like python…oh…you mention that later…but you are sorta wrong about python….python is standardized…it's the forks you need to watch out for…like cython etc.
@Gamefromscratch, pls make video about Gideros! It truly is a hidden treasure.
It is competitor of Corona SDK. And it is actually better than Corona SDK.
It has:
– direct apk export
– instant on-device testing (totally awesome)
– lua enhancements, macro constants
– unique async calls system
If you have any questions about it, I'd be glad to provide information about beloved game engine. 🙂
I remember getting the pipeline to work being a huge pain and that was ultimately what pushed me away from using panda, gonna take a look at your other video on it as I really like the engine and the render pipeline looks amazing, it sounds like it is much easier to work with then it used to be(pretty sure I wasn't using the bundled ppython). The developer of the pipeline has some videos on youtube(sorry I don't have a link, it's been a long time since I looked at this)
I used this engine when I was a child.
Take a look at Castle Game Engine.
If you want, you could cover Entidad 3d, I don't know where to suggest it, so here it is entidad-3d.com
I am so happy with this huge surprise. I love panda3d. The only language I know is Python and Java. I really appreciate man. Thanks. I really wish you could talk more about it.
Gameplay3D.io is pretty much the same but with more platforms
gotta sayy this is one of my fave series so far 🙂 At first when i saw the initial rendering i was like " i can see why no one uses this", but then you used the PB rendering and it looked pretty on par with the other stuff thats out there!.
It's very interesting game engine! but how is it possible to do a level design with it, there is no editor 😛 I also like to see Ogre game engine on your Others series.
Very cool! Are there any 2d game engines that use Python?
Don't get fooled by the old looking demos, you can do 'modern' stuff with P3D if you just add a bit of shader know-how.
I spy the newly released LOVE 11
Haha I used to play ToonTown when I was a kid. xD
