** Edited ** These use aluminum tweeters, not titanium like I mentioned in the video. ** Edited **

Where I Purchased – Pawn Shop

Listed Price – $200

Average Guy Hi-Fi Price Paid – $180

Condition – 90% (not counted in the Average Guy Hi-Fi score)

This set is in very good condition with some slight scratches on the gloss black finish. All grills are in great shape and all tweeters and woofers are pristine.

Quality – 7.5

These “little” speakers might look like they aren’t higher quality upon first glance but you will change your mind the first time you hold them.

The cabinets are heavy and feel very stout. The grills are nice and so are the binding posts.

Sound – 7.0

This is a tricky category as these sound absolutely amazing for their size but leave a lot to be desired, if you have owned larger speakers.

It’s hard to imagine a better sounding system for the size and the cost of these awesome speakers but I will keep looking.

MSRP Rating – 7.0

At $1,000 this is undoubtedly a fantastic 5.1 option but knowing that a set of the Polk Series II’s, that I just reviewed, Is only ~ $275 more, I marked these a little lower.

With that said, this DT set comes with a subwoofer and the much larger Polks didn’t.

Aesthetics – 7.0

I am super picky about how speakers look in my small room but these didn’t score all that well.

You’d think that I would love them because of their diminutive size but I honestly prefer a little larger speakers than these. Just didn’t fill my visual requirements the way I thought they would have.

I normally love the looks of all the Definitive Technology lineup, especially the Mythos series so I felt a little bad about ranking them this low.

Price Paid Value – 7.5

On the second hand market, $180 is a very good deal but I have just had amazing deals over the years so the score is influenced here.

Average Guy Hi-Fi Rating – 36/50 = 72%

This is a great little system for those that want a great sound and have a small room. These speakers can be had on the 2nd hand market for great deals so be sure to keep an eye out!

Other Equipment used: Denon AVR-X330W, Marantz MM7055 5 Channel Amplifier, LG C9 OLED 65” TV, LG 4K Blu-ray Player, Panamax M5100-PM, Xbox One X

Hi…
Make comparison Vs Klipsch

@shal_26 May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

Great video. Would the 4 satellite speakers be good for front and rear height speakers?

@robertorodriguez2609 May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

it's just so unfair to compare to bigger speakers, then it says nothing about the sound quality of these.

@ryant75 May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

Is it best to hook these up to a 4-0hm or 8-ohm setting? I ask because my Denon can be adjusted to accommodate multiple impedances. Or should I jus leave it be? Thank you

@ronalcasid3844 May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

Passive radiators do work similar to a port. Who ever told you they expand the volume of the enclosure was misinformed.

@cuzihungry May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

I love that movie!!! That sound is amazing, found this 6 speaker bundle along with a Denon AVR-X2100W Receiver for $200!

@lightfantastik May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

I just picked up the sub from this system at a thrift store for $17.50! I haven't decided if I like it yet or not. It's definitely louder and punchier, but doesn't sound as smooth or deep…but I'm also still trying to get everything dialed in. I'd be going from a 12" sub, but only 150w (Infinity HTS-20SUB). It seems like it should be an upgrade, but replacing a 12 with an 8 just doesn't seem like it, lol.

@dennislee578 May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

You mains speakers are too low ! Compared to the center speaker position !! You always need to check the manufacturer speaker manual , to see how close the center speaker and mains speaker should be ! To get the best sound ! You don't know what you are doing !!!

@donalddeorio2237 May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

I have an AV 7005 Preamp Processor with a Carver AV 705x 5 channel power amplifier sounds incredible. Bought both used on Ebay. The Carver I've had since 2003, and the Marantz since 2018, as a 60th birthday present from my sons

The entry level Pro Cinema 600 series blows away ANYTHING Bose makes for a fraction of Bose’s outrageous prices.

@thulasimaran528 May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

Sound quality is very good

@iowatiger07 May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

I am wondering if you would get better performance by raising the 600 sat speakers off the shelf so they can disperse sound better and be closer to ear level.

@MegaIkedog May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

My biggest problem with the PC 600 series is the subwoofer. I really dislike that it doesn't have an always on switch/position. It falls asleep very easily during long quiet periods of movies and games, and doesn't wake up when the receiver is turned on. I sold the subwoofer and bought an SVS SB-1000 subwoofer. It has an always on switch position, and sounds a lot better than the Def Tech subwoofer!

@lilsaysothe1st May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

I need a Receiver to power these?? Idk much about home theater setups. I got these for free from some dude☠️😂

@roofpizza1250 May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

I've seen a demonstration of how aluminum is better than titanium but don't know about titaniums benefits over aluminum.

@Gioxtream May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

ALL FOR $180???? What a deal!!!!!!!!!!!

@DJJASProductions May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

can you comment more on the sound quality of the sub? I am looking for a super small sub, and it seems these 600/800 Pro Subs are very good for the money. Would have to spend double to get better?

Hi there! Greetings from Chicago, I love your enthusiasm and passion for home theatre systems. I truly enjoy all your reviews, I just became a new subscriber.
I just got an old 10 in. Velodyne VA series subwoofer that only has in and out RCA plug ins. Do you know how I can connect it to a Yamaha RX-A3000? I’ll greatly appreciate your advice.

@wrk8999 May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

Nope, that's the new number. You're right, they were formally dubbed 600. Sorry.

@wrk8999 May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

actually, the model # is 6d

@boppernostopper8598 May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

are you in the home theater fb groups?

@isabelurena4752 May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

7 out of ten is bs

@m00nyoze May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

I have had this set for a decade for my theatre setup in my room. If anyone got these for $200, that's a steal! They sound great for their size. My only issue was the sub. Either I got a trash one or it's just trash itself. Or maybe I like boomier bass. Either way, I bought a new Klipsch subwoofer and kept the satellites and my world's been amazing ever since.

@euMMagic May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

Hi, very nice review, just curious how you setup the Front Left/Right speakers as I understand from the Definitive Technology speaker manual recommending running the cables of both FL/FR from the AVR to subwoofer input and then connecting the FL/FR speakers to the subwoofer out to get a perfect blend of bass management. Since you were mentioning there is a lack of mid-bass, want to understand how your connection setup was….Cool Review!!

Great video! Doug de muro for hifi :p

@prestotechreviews8871 May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

Great video! You deserve wayyyyyyyyy more subscribers! Would you say these would be a good set for critically listening to music for say a beginner audiophile or even mid level audiophile if you can get them at a good price? How is the sound accuracy? How clean is the bass? Also, I watch steve guttenberg too and like his content.

@mynorescalante718 May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

Great video 👍 very helpful. How would the sub compare to a much larger sub like a 10 inch? I am trying to replace my 10in Polk psw108. Would this sub be a better option? Thank you.

@toddNothingClever May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

Average Guy Hi-Fi, I really like the idea of reviewing used gear. I've said for years that people with a tight budget should look for used gear rather than buy bottom of the barrel gear. A good speaker from 20 or more years ago is still a good speaker today.

@riceoobxg May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

Hi Average Guy Hi-Fi. I am on the market for a budget 2.1 setup for my PC and would appreciate your opinion. The options are: 1) Klipsch Promedia 2.1 2) Edifier S350DB 3) LG CM4590. All 3 are in the $100-$150 range when on sale. What are your thoughts?

@Zarkoff500 May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

RSL is coming out with the Speedwoofer 12x which will have passive radiators. The Speedwoofer 10S was a great little sub.

@Subacabra May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

I went through a bunch of Def Tech speakers in my home theater journey. SM55's, pm1000's, 800's, pc1000/2000. Not too shabby but since replaced with all PSA, diysg and DCM.

@49ers50 May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

Wat crossover did u use for those satellites speakers

@49ers50 May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

@TheFrugalAudiophile May 6, 2024 - 4:34 pm

Have you ever heard the Aperio subs? They have passive radiators, two I believe. They don’t dig the lowest in their price range, but have articulate, tight base. I think they are perfect for music.d
