Please feel free to come hang out in the discord! https://discord.gg/d2NysmWkcW Hello and welcome to my review of Aery – Calm Mind!
Okay, so where to begin with this one. If you’re looking for a review of just this game, well you’ll get that, but I also NEED to talk about this whole series. I’ve been thinking about them for a long time now, and I can’t keep my mouth shut about it any longer. Alright, it’s not that serious but I think it’s a discussion worth having! I’m sure that not too many people, if any, will care about this, but I’m going to try and make it interesting. There are 5 games in the Aery series now, and there are some striking similarities in all of them. If you’ve played these games, have you noticed that? I’m sure that you have, but for some reason it seems to be hard to find anyone talking about it. I know these are kids games and aren’t supposed to be taken super seriously, but some of the choices that have been made about these games have been… baffling to say the least. So yeah, I won’t go on any more about it here, I talked a lot about it in the video, but let me know if you think I’m overesaggerating about this whole thing or not!

Thank you for making this video. I'm decluttering my wishlist and had all the Aery games on there simply because I love parrots and I want them to be good, but taking a closer look, I just don't think I'll enjoy them at this level of quality. You've helped me reach my decision. :)
I love the aesthetic of these games so it's great to see someone talking about them :)
Sky: children of the sky is one of the most peaceful games I've ever played, the music and landscapes are beautiful. There are objectives to complete but they are all optional and there's a lot of hidden features that really expand the game play. Sky was able to bring back the nostalgia that I had for that airplane game in Nintendo's Wii Sports Resort, you just fly around the island to pop balloons for points, it's perfect and wonderful.
But you’re absolutely spot on here. This genre is being exploited now.
One would think that with all the revenue raised from PS Trophies & Achievement hunters over the last few releases, they’d invest into some serious game design & more independent music licensing.
There is a lot of potential here. Feather is a great example of how these games should evolve. There is hope!
Honestly the controls in this game were so goddamn aggravating? You could play it with just one joystick, but that feels weird because almost no game I've played on the switch where there was a 3D space to navigate only uses one - and also, one of the sticks only allows up and down motion, so you'd think the other does left and right, right? But no, it does up and down as well, but the movement doesn't feel good, it's choppy even when the sensitivity is turned way down
And the camera lags behind quite a lot, so you often can't even see where you're going?? And you can't speed up or slow down manually either, which was very annoying
I came into this game from AER (Memories of Old) and was sorely disappointed in the mechanics in Aery
Plus, the music isn't really.... Calming? It's kinda boring, and feels like it's still trying to motivate you, but not quite
Good video, I like your voice tbh, and you had pretty good pacing
