Treasure Planet Games Review – Whalley ft @SinisterPixel

After being silent for 6 months, Whalley is finally back, feeling fresh and with a new look too! Today, I decide to take a look at the video game adaptations of Disney’s Treasure Planet! Do any of them still hold up? We’ll see…

Too bad the gba version was left out but then again it's just a down scaled version of the ps2 version along with its same music

I never played those playstation games, but I did sunk lots of hours in Battle at Procyon. I replayed it some years ago and surprisingly it did hold up to my nostalgia. I undertand this might not be your kind of game. But just in case you give it an opportunity (and manage to make it work) I have to point out that the game can look a lot better than what's shown in the video:

1: Check the graphic settings, te gameplay seems to run at low settings with very low definition textures (even for this 2002 game's standards) and there should be a colourful background, not just blackness.

2: Its possible to change the resolution by editing some numbers. First, you need to create a profile. For that I think accessing the settings is enough to trigger it, but you could try to launch the campaign just in case.

Then exit the game and go to this location: Users(your username)AppDataLocalVirtualStoreProgram Files (x86)Disney Interactive(I think the foulder name should be "Treasure Planet Battle at Procyon", mine is "El Planeta del Tesoro Combate en Procyon" because the CD I'm using is the spanish one)TP_GameUserProfiles

There you wild find a *.pft archive with some code (that is also visible ingame when selecting your profile). Open it with notebook and find "00000003 InGame Fullscreen DisplayInfo" and "00000003 InGame Max Fullscreen DisplayInfo". By editing the "FullScreen Width" and "Heigth" in both of the you can make the game render at any resolution. I even managed to run it at 4k. Although the UI gets smaller. But its still somewhat usable at 4k, and perfectly fine at 1080p.

I am afraid can't help you with troubleshooting. In my case the game just works out of the box (literally, I just installed it from an original CD and it runs fine). That's using Windows 11.

BTW. The developers of this game also made "Homeworld: Cataclysm" which is even better than this one. And for the whole "age of sail battles in space" thing, there are "Battlefleet Gothic Armada" I and II (from 2016 and 2019 respectively).

That grand, exciting era when "licensed game that plays like whatever mascot platformer is currently popular" was a fairly established genre. We don't really get those these days. There's no Lightyear game that plays like Rift Apart or anything.

Man, Jak and Treasure Planet looks great!

Welcome back, Whalley. Splendid video. It surprises me that Treasure Planet got more than one game. Not complaining, just surprised.

Wow, never would've thought a licensed Disney game would slap their Disney veneer onto similar projects to make it look like their own.
And man, a Yu-Gi-Oh game. Next time, it's time to D D D DD D DDDDDDDDDUEL!
@TheSkeleBen April 28, 2024 - 2:47 am
Oh hey, I know that Yu Gi Oh game

I could never get past the start of it because my baby mind couldn't grasp the concept of

card game, the game with cards

Oh no... just from those brief clips of the PS1 versions music, and the collectable pickup sound effect... I can tell you for sure they must have used to same audio people as Jinx...

Good old early 2000s movie tie in games. They'd immitate popular games yet somehow still end up in the bargin bin from being so bad.

Thanks for having me! Was a lot of fun to record!

OH MY GOD! I'M ALIVE!?

Sorry for the very long delay in getting videos out, but due to A LOT of issues and other things stopping me from being creative!

Thankfully, that's all over now and I'm back with a new video! The second video's script is finish and I just need to record everything. :)

Editor's note: Sorry for the little audio issues here and there! Still working on it.

A massive, special thanks to the legendary Sinister Pixel! He's an awesome VTuber and you should definitely check his channel out!

I won't lie because of how long away I was, I was a little nervous pressing publish. But... I'm glad I did!

Hope you all enjoy and I'll see you all... IN THE SHADOW REALM!
