My theories: Julian Sands was 65 years old. As some one who's 62, I've buried enough friends who were in great shape, who suffered sudden heart attacks and died. Given Julian's extensive climbing and hiking experience(over 200 summits of just Mt. Baldy as well as the Alps), I'd say from his photos with a helmet and spikes on other summits, knowing what gear to bring that he already owned, was something he would be an expert at. I believe Julian Sands had a sudden and massive, coronary embolism, died and then the predators who would be feeding in that area, got hold of him and the remains stayed scattered until they were found. That or someone murdered him on the trail, took all his valuable gear and dumped the body in the least likely place it would be found. 😳

Rest in Peace, fine sir. You shall always be remembered as the Warlock, your cameo as Jor-El in Smallville and the Doci from Stargate SG-1 to me. I had forgotten about this event and looked Julian Sands up and was saddened to learn of his passing. No one gets over the loss of a loved one, but we do stay connected to them and carry on their legacy by putting forth kindness into the world if we have been blessed by theirs. ♥

Happy Birthday and Rest in Peace Julian Sands. U were amazing legend. I love Arachnophobia. I watch a lot, of Spider movies. "Eight Legged Freaks" was awesome... me and my brother watch it all the time. That one is hardcore. Seriously! And also, I love Call Of Duty Black Ops 2. Pretty kool game. I played part 1. I was fortunate enough to sit next to him on a flight from New York to Chicago. It was in the mid-late 90's.
I recognized him immediately but it was obvious that he didn't want any attention. He had on sunglasses and a baseball cap. I leaned in and whispered "Don't worry Mr Sands, your secret is safe with me." He said "I truly appreciate it, thank you." One of the flight attendants brought him a blanket and pillow. He slept most of the way.

Sitting here watching Rose Red and decided to see what all the actors have been up to....I was shocked to find out he passed and in such a horrible way. Prayers to the family. So sorry for your loss.

Two things about this movie, the spiders(small ones) used in the movie are from Australia. And the English scientist (Dr James Atherton)/Julian Sands was the person lost last year up in the mountains in California. His remains were found later the beginning of this year. RIP Mr Sands.🙏❤️

Wonderful actor. I just heard of his passing and days later saw him in one of his last roles, Crooked House, a very well-adapted and produced Agatha Christie piece. So sorry to have lost him and deep condolences to his family.

I was rooting for him ever since I heard he went missing. Vastly talented actor! I knew after 3 weeks that chances were low of finding him alive and well due to human requirements for food and water, the length of time gone, and the amount of supplies he was supposed to have taken for that hike. Condolences to his Family, and believe me, we are all saddened by this news result. Didn't want it to be the way it turned out. I just found out a week ago. I really was rooting for him to be all right. Definitely one of my favorite actors. He brought style and class to any role I've had the pleasure of seeing him do. Missed!

So sad. RIP. A quick slip on ice on a steep trail like that changes your destiny forever. NOTE to the critics here - there's nothing wrong with hiking alone. It's hiking in treacherous conditions that's the issue! Other people died there in recent times who had buddies with them. Made no difference.

(Yes, I'm an experienced outdoorsperson and have hiked Baldy plenty. But, no, I don't take unnecessary risks, and Baldy in winter is DEFINITELY that.) No offense, but all the people saying that the issue here was him being alone are clearly not very experienced. Everyone I've known who's died in the wilderness was with someone else when it happened. Not that Julian knew how risky it was in this case, sadly. Can't help but wonder if he'd hiked it in summer and seen how steep it can get. If not, I can understand how this happened. 😢
