I wanted to learn Unreal Engine 5 by trying to clone some of my favorite childhood games. I decided to start with Contra which was one of my favorite games on the NES. My main goal was to clone one level of the game, good enough that I can share it with others to play.So here is the result 🙂

It's cool you made a contra clone; but why do multiplayer? Why not do something that does not require any internet access, period? I am also learning Unreal Engine, though I am currently taking a break from it. I started a Arkanoid clone using Godot but ran into a creative snag when it came to visual effects, so I started learning Unreal Engine. I have achieved a few mile stones and am close to what I have finished in Godot. My aim is to strip out any internet requirements or features from the game. I'd like to see more people do projects like this, with their favorite classic arcade games.

Good work! But there are several things that bothered me during my play:
1. Too many enemies. Infinite spawn of enemies is not a very good idea.
2. No laying down on the ground to avoid some bullets.
3. Several places on the level where one enemiy is standing upstairs and the other one is laying down and both shoot 3-bullets rounds – you basically have nothing to but to die… =)
Great job man, i don't know how to create one. Could you please guide me about what should i learn to develop a good 2d game like Contra/Golden Axe or Super Mario type, which we used to play in consoles like Atari/Sega Genesis/Nintendo?

Contra needs to stay a side scroller, but it needs metroidvania repeatable levels and permanent upgrades that buy between levels, like double jump or a shield that can take so many hits before it breaks.

Are you only determining x-coordinates for your AI navmesh?

I'm talking you need to buy Copy Rights (Or Sump'm) to Old Classic Games and redo them for profit…

Yo you just made this game kinda simple to make in Unreal Engine 5 now I can make Mortal Kombat Mythologies platform game by using this same method
