Thanks for watching, everyone!! This one felt like a return to form and I’m very pleased overall with it. The team killed it!
However… it seems I made a mistake about the DNA. God dang it!!!! I always try so hard to make sure my math is correct but I misread the info. It’s 215PB per GRAM of DNA, not per strand. That makes it a LOT less storage than what I wrote out, but still in the Zetabyte range so I feel the point still stands haha.

Ah yes, a zettabyte.
The average storage space required for 0.457 Xbox games nowadays.

DNA isnt binary though, right? Like the comparsion fails because its quadinary(is that the word)? G, A, T, C? Which is a good step forward from binary but still short of decimal or sextidecimal computing, let alone quantum computing. If your bits have a larger amount of options of states you can store far more info in a much smaller space, right? I may be wrong but this is how i understand. Can anyone give some insight?

Oh yeah and 1000 ZettaBytes is 1 YottaByte(YB)
@Apratim0 April 24, 2024 - 10:51 pm
1 ZettaByte(ZB) is 1000 Exabytes(EB), 1,000,000 peta bytes(PB), 1,000,000,000 TeraBytes(TB),1,000,000,000,000(trillion) GigaBytes (GB),1,000,000,000,000,0000(Quadrillion) MegaBytes(MB), 1,000,000,000,000,000,000(quintillion) KiloBytes or 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000(sextillion)Bytes.

@Animo2006 April 24, 2024 - 10:51 pm
I work at one of these data centers you speak of. The one I work at in particular has ~700,000 sq ft. of server space. That being said, even the facility director doesn't have specific data on how much storage is in our data center.

@Suzuki_Hiakura April 24, 2024 - 10:51 pm
I remember hearing how people calculated max storable data on DNA to be about 1.4 petabytes (for data storage purposes on artificial strands), but the methods used were so impractical it would be over 30,000 dollars for the machine to read it, not to mention the ones to contain and make sure it doesn't degrade or anything... then there is the space...

Saw more recently how they were finally making them, but it was much the same impractical issues as before, but is interesting none the less, in my opinion.
@Suzuki_Hiakura April 24, 2024 - 10:51 pm
The beginning of the video reminded me of an annoying issue I had a bit ago, trying to find an old HDD or SSD that is less than 100gb... practically impossible now, which means I need to hack around using storage solutions in older hardware with memory limits, yet no partition settings...

1024 bytes is one kilobite, not 1000, because all these numbers are myltiplied by 2, 2*1=2, 2*2=4 ... 64*2=128 ... 512*2=1024
