Are you aware that Best Costume Oscars are not awarded based on historical accuracy? Members of the Academy ... most of whom are not fashion or history experts ... vote on them. Little Women? Memoirs of a Geisha? Really? Anna Kerenina?? Marie Antoinette??? You've got to be kidding me. You are literally pointing out all the ways these movies "made choices" that strayed away from historical accuracy. Where's Emma? Titanic? The Notebook? Young Victoria? No, I do not agree with your picks.

Have you people never heard of 'A Room With A View'. Very accurate period fashion and costume.10/10.

Little Women's costumes were not historically accurate, let alone the MOST historically accurate. For one thing, before you even examine the clothes, there's the HAIR. Girls/women didn't wear their hair loose and unpinned past their early teens, unless they were prostitutes. If you did so, you'd be considered a slut and social pariah. Jo might have wanted to be regarded as "unconventional", but she wouldn't want to be regarded as a whore, especially as a woman trying to be taken seriously as a writer. And Meg, above all, would care a huge amount about looking proper. Their hair would be pinned except when they go to bed, and when they leave the house, they would be wearing a bonnet, because flaunting your hair was slutty, and because a tan was undesirable, you strived to keep your face pale. There are myriad other reasons (Meg's side ponytail and Amy's fucking UGGS) but in terms of historical accuracy, when you have your actress with hair down her back, you've automatically fucked the whole thing up from the get go. You didn't look into historically accuracy of costuming at all, you just listed costumes you LIKED and have no idea how accurate they are or aren't.

Truly awful list. Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World and The Lighthouse (2019) and most accurate of all "Come and See" (they used real war uniforms) trump all of these when it comes to historical accurate costumes.

Little woman, Anna Karenina and Gatsby are not historical accurate at all...

The clothing in Macbeth is not historically accurate in the slightest…

The fact that half of the mentioned movies have the most historically INACCURATE costumes ever is ridiculous

...as much as I love Marie Antoinette (2006) the costumes are highly inaccurate. They were more so based on the pastels of cakes and confections of bake shops. However, this was done to provide a more "dreamy" and idealized version of Marie's youth as she really was just a teenager on the throne, per Coppola's vision. Kirsten wore light makeups and dresses, instead of the heavy face powders and lacy jewel-toned gowns of the real French courts. All of this was done on purpose to tell the story from a visual narrative and was done perfectly in my opinion, but was very inaccurate to the times.
@emilyporter1186 April 21, 2024 - 5:06 am
It's ridiculous that little women got a mention. The costuming in that movie is infamous in the historical dress community for all of it's INaccuracies
@ellie6475 April 21, 2024 - 5:06 am
Where the hell was titanic on this list?
@MrZ099 April 21, 2024 - 5:06 am
How accurate would be Dark? Any idea? It takes a lot of ages for short but several scenes.
@therealameliabedelia7821 April 21, 2024 - 5:06 am
Uh….Little Women (2019)? Maybe the costumes were pretty but they are not at all historically accurate (or accurate to the characters). The undergarments give structure that are 100% necessary to make the clothing look of the era. The Marches are a poor family so every dress that Amy wears in the first half of the film should believably have looked like it made its way through three older sisters (one being Jo who would not at all have been easy on them). The hair was all wrong (Meg’s hair should absolutely have been turned up- it is a point of contention in the novel that Jo initially refused to turn up her hair and “become a young woman” where as Meg was all about that). One of the pairs of snow shoes worn are quite literally Ugg boots.

I enjoyed the film but it is definitely not deserving of a spot on a historically accurate costumes list.
