Played this with my kids over three different game seasons and we had a good time with it. The point and click analogy is spot on.
Sounds like a good play. If you want a similar game that has a much simpler save system, try Cantaloop. I've recently picked it up after Tom and Bryan reviewed it and it is very good. It also has no failure state (that I've found so far), it just gives you reminders when you do something dumb. 🙂
