So basically you’ve not watched anything before the 80’s and just picked a few popular movies. I like Star Wars but I wouldn’t exactly say a space battle was in the air. If you did any research you’d know there’s far better air battles film in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s all obviously with practical effects.

The "MIGs" in Iron Eagles look, quickly and offhand, not MIGs but likely Israeli Kfirs; and in Top Gun, looks to be the prevalent trainer jet F-5 Tiger.

Get over yourselves. The list isn't "Top Ten Realistic Depictions of Aerial Combat." There are other lists, good ones, that cover that. This is action film dogfights.

We live in a world with enough options that both can exist.
