FF14’s graphics looks like PS3 at times (#grapegate) and I just accepted that it was a compromise they had to make because having 30-50 players on screen in an open world would be too taxing
When I heard about the graphical update, I thought it would be a minor upgrade in texture quality but the idea that FF14 could look as good as modern day games now excites me
IIRC 7.0 will be the last expansion with PS4 support too, so it will be interesting to see what they do with the horsepower of the Behemoth PS5
The mmo is really the only thing bringing them money anymore which is why they're so good at supporting it.
How people are just now realizing this is confusing me so much. And how people didnt know they used this engine for XIV is also confusing me when in the NoClip doc it was said they changed to Luminous, even in the meme video of how 1.0 went down they explained they switched to Luminous.
Theres always different versions of an engine, XIV uses an early downscaled version of Luminous with a lesser Post Processing, XV uses the original version of Luminous that was showcased by Microsoft.
I know people arent always well versed in game engines and overall software used in games- but you can literally find any and all of this with simple google searches.
The character doesn't feel like it is a part of the world at all in these engines. Compare that to things like breath of the wild, or hell, even genshin impact. In those games, it feels like every movement has real weight to it. Not so in these ff games.
FF7R, being built in unreal engine, was noticeably better.
