@JacobP81 April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
The story I heard was that the Onavo VPN was NOT originally spyware but instead a VPN for privacy. Then Facebook bought the company and turned the VPN into spyware.
@JacobP81 April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
1:11 That is so dumb. That is a very stupid thing for the company to do.
@punkofthedeath April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
Just like Google, from "Don't be evil" to "Be evil"
@everythingpony April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm

@JuliLukiKon April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
10:36 well... and still american politicans/judges are not banning facebook... strange.
@JuliLukiKon April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
Honestly... yes this is a stupid idea. But still, it's opt in. No one has to use it. Just don't be stupid enough to sing up without thinking about the consequences. Use common sense!
@lowlevelcodingch April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
If i can control their data, maybe...
@wisteela April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
Telegram: Utterly insane move

Like to point out you can get services like FlexTel Virtual alias Numbers (Even some Food delivery apps Have Virtual alias Numbers (SIP Phone & SIP MMS SMS)

I think they want to compete with LoRA and Ripple LoRA Mesh & Meshtastic LoRA
@MyurrDurr April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
Sending up to 100 text messages a month to random people all over the world? That is gonna cost a LOT of money on phone topup. Texting people outside the country you live in costs a lot unless you both happen to have Android while using Google Messages and have RCS enabled
Which is a combo thats not likely, especially in the US where most people use iMessage and Whatsapp
@Airprince4 April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm

@Janz_u April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
Wait a second... Doesn't this Telegram experiment have potential to reveal ANY phone number of logging in user? I mean if my phone sends the message, what prevents me from snooping on my text messages tab and checking who I just sent message to?

Come to think of it, couldn't I just take the code I sent and act as MITM to login his account? Isn't this technically just Telegram willingly opening up all their accounts for MITM attack in order to save some money?
@mfmr200 April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
lmao, what were they smoking, did the company hijacked by fsb?
@Shajirr_ April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
So as a fun "surprise", any people who's SMS are not entirely free will get obliterated by fees if they agree to this Telegram plan, since they will have to pay out of their own pocket.
@codingcupcake4370 April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
I wonder if they thought about the person signing up for free just might be a middle man attacker and they are just sending info straight to the middle man, meaning the middle man can detect and change the info however they want or use the info themselves to break into people's account. Did they just sit in a meeting and brainstorm who could come up with the worst idea to try to save money? lol It's funny how everyone is mostly worried about the guy in the middle getting their privacy breached when it's worse than that.

@aleksanderczajka6072 April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
That's either a very bad day to post this or a horribly possible joke.
@andyvox1679 April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
From India, I received an OTP from a user of telegram to confirm my login.....I'm surprised to see this ... FIRST I THOUGHT it's a spam .... I went back to playstore to confirm it's really a legit telegram app and the OTP worked.. but uninstalled telegram 2days back....
@shadyworld1 April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
Well, worse it’s a potential “Ambient Mining”!
@RandomMamad April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
Actually, Telegram is totally honest in the reliability thing. Some countries like Iran where I live have restricted getting text messages from specific numbers that are linked to apps like Telegram, Meta, or ...
This actually helps us to log in easier (which is still unsafe tho)
@VOIDMW April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
What a horrible feature
@Dr.Mohandes April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
it does actually improve reliability
some sim providers in autocratic countries block telegram SMS
@vexed3185 April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm

@whtiequillBj April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
@0:14, Do tell if privacy that important if Telegram has horrific and depraved acts? Isn't it more important to get to the bottom the crime on Telegram?
@TommyCraft5 April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
lmao its so funny when americans accuse china of spying with no proof while we have out here facebook doing a whole ahh man in the middle attack
@asificam1 April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
You know, a good option to reduce SMS costs for MFA would be to not use SMS, instead using TOTP codes on a phone app, or a yubikey (U2F NOT the password-less passkeys, same math but more U2F is more private and if a usb token is lost, attackers don't know which accounts it works on).

@DerMarkus1982 April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
What?? If I'm logging in to Telegram, I'm supposed to RECEIVE ( not SEND ) a 2FA code via SMS, right? Whom would I send that SMS? I mean, huh 🤔?
@VaibhavShewale April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm

@Crimin4L April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
Privacy focused messaging app requires your personal phone number. Red flag number 1
@7heMech April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
Telegram was never private in the first place.
@xDMG15x April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
Is there any Israeli software company that isn’t nefarious?
@DeepfriedChips April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
If the sms messages aren't limited to same country, the data charges will quickly add up to more than 5 dollars
@faded.0913 April 16, 2024 - 4:50 pm
I've used this app when I was a minor and sent explicit photos to someone of my age at the time. I wonder what's on fb servers 🫢
