This painting also represents the seasons of Winter, spring, summer and autumn. This motif is very much laced throughout the movie with there being mentions of life being divided into seasons.
In the Hargas we learn that children under the age of 18 are considered to be in the spring section of their life. Ages 18 to 36 are considered to be Summer and this is age bracket that the central cast fit into. The film is also set in summer hence the title and thus this why we mainly focus on them.
Autumn is classed as ages 36-54 and Winter is classed as 54-72 when the group die.
However, as we know the group don’t mind seeing death before this as several characters are sacrificed throughout the movie.
Christian is sacrificed at the end of the film after Dani takes up the position and he is stuffed into a bear and burned alive.
This motif of a Bear and Queen can also be seen in the film early on when we see a picture of a bear and girl with a crown on hanging above a bed.
This is a painting by John Bauer, a swedish artist known for making paintings of swedish folklore and mythology.
Just before Christian is told that he can impregnate a member of the group we also see an image of a bear being burned alive.
He is placed in a chair, directly infront of it which means that he can do nothing but look at it. It is placed on the wall against the room that he is about to go into and this will be where he decides to betray Dani or not.
It tells him his fate however he does nothing to avoid this and thus he is paralysed much in the same way that he is paralysed at the end of the film.
Pelle does say in the movie that his family died in a fire and he was raised by the Hargas. It could be that they were sacrificed when he was very young and thus he ended up becoming adopted by those in the village.
We see a scarecrow doll sat on a bookcase during the movie and another figure beside it. This represents the corpses that are stuffed with hay and put beside Christian at the end of the movie when he is stuffed into the bear.

There are a billion little details. You can watch it through the eyes of an outsider or try and understand their culture (which obviously gets outsiders killed) For instance, skin the fool and then the jester isn’t put in with his body so to them, he’s fucked and useless. The bear is the wicked one so they believe that he will be tortured upon death to learn. I feel that most of their rituals go hand and hand with the existential situations of the characters. The character that knew about the cliff ritual beforehand was told by his buddy in the cult that it was going to happen and he kept it to himself. I have to stop watching this damn movie. Another thing I noticed was the scene when the group is being told that Dani was invited. Watch the dude in the cults face during that scene. It doesn’t move at all and has this weird stare and as soon as she enters it shifts. I feel this was basically predestined and in Ari’s mind the cult was right yet again. 😂

Another thing I noticed is when Dani was packing her things to leave and Pelle is trying to comfort her and keep her from going while they are in the bunk house, there's a murel actually of the scenes coming up of Christian and Maja and her being the may queen ans so one.
Also in the beginning of the movie, one of the friends in the group (cant really remember who) jokes to pelle on how hes “brainwashing all of his friends” for taking them on the trip.. obvious foreshadowing
at the beginning of the movie when they first step into the cult's place they get introduced to the leader, he goes in and hugs her saying : welcome home. but only while making eye contact with Dani . as if he knew and were planning to have her stay
A little late, but it always stood out to me how crooked all the buildings were. None of them are perfectly level or square. Even the most normal looking ones, like the bunk house, have odd roofing on the sides with gutters and overhangs that set at weird angles and somehow look larger on the inside. To me, this architecture is there to make us uneasy, a kind of subtle uncanny valley effect. It reminds me of the descriptions of some of Lovecraft's non-Euclidien geometry in his stories. It also hints at either a sort of otherworldly nature of the cult, like they are trying to mimic "normal" human buildings, but they don't quite grasp it. It could also be seen as a kind of madness in their nature, where the builders' plans were followed, no matter how inaccurate they might have been. I think this is all here to show the cult in a more disturbing and alien light, contradicting the "one big happy family" vibe they try so hard to maintain.

Is the only one of the outsiders to take a bite of the pies…. After thinking about it, it’s not human meat, it’s the bear meat. Signifying Chris connected with the bear.

How someone ends seeing thus movie and thinks Dani found a family or she is free is beyond me. In fact, it freeks me more than the movie itself
Taking hallucinogens while in the absolute depths of recent trauma while in a strange and unfamiliar place around people you don't know just seems like something even Steve O would call wack.
Above Dani’s bed looks to be paintings of crowns, foreshadowing her Queen title. Above her Boyfriends is a painting of the cheating scene while others watch. 😮

One of the most disturbing things about this movie is the amount of people who think the cult cared about Dani. Those people would become victims to a cult in real life.

I got the impression that they wanted to allude the people sacrificing themselves will be reborn. The new babies getting the names of the dead elders, Maya getting pregnant on the sacrifice day, the whole "circle of live" thing. Midsommar rituals resemble Beltaine rituals in many ways and there human lives are considered as seasons: The nature "dies" in winter and gets reborn in spring. The strongest hint is the rune in the tent: a combination Gebo (the X) that means "gift" and Inguz, the rhomb, meaning fertility.
What I find curious id 18 years circle. 18 years childhood, 18 years wandering, 18 years working, 18 years mentor. 18 more years and then the 90 years between two feasts are complete.
