A letter that was never meant to be seen, a lie that was never meant to be told, a life he never dreamed he could have. Evan Hansen is about to get the one thing he’s always wanted: a chance to finally fit in.

Both deeply personal and profoundly contemporary, DEAR EVAN HANSEN is a new American musical about life and the way we live it.

Came here from Owl City and this honestly sounds horrible, sorry but Adam did it better, well I'm actually not sorry 😂

This song is just perfect for anyone struggling with anxiety, I mean I should know. Being a senior in high school whilst living with anxiety can become impossible but this song and whole musical reminds me there are people out there on the other side of that window and things will get better

When u first discovered this musical, I couldn’t even begin to imagine feeling anything like this.
3 years later, and I can remember a specific scenario that perfectly fits with each individual lyric.
How time flies.

I first listened to this right after I told my mom about my mental heath. I was in a car and it played. I looked out the window the whole time so she wouldn't see me crying. Words can't express how happy I felt, knowing I wasn't alone. I know it's not a real person, but I hope Even always has his mama.

I've learned to slam on the brake

Before I even turn the key

Before I make the mistake

Before I lead with the worst of me

Give them no reason to stare

No slippin' up if you slip away

So I got nothing to share

No, I got nothing to say

Step out, step out of the sun

If you keep getting burned

Step out, step out of the sun

Because you've learned, because you've learned

On the outside, always looking in

Will I ever be more than I've always been?

'Cause I'm tap, tap, tapping on the glass

I'm waving through a window

I try to speak, but nobody can hear

So I wait around for an answer to appear

While I'm watch, watch, watching people pass

I'm waving through a window, oh

Can anybody see, is anybody waving back at me?

We start with stars in our eyes

We start believing that we belong

But every sun doesn't rise

And no one tells you where you went wrong

Step out, step out of the sun

If you keep getting burned

Step out, step out of the sun

Because you've learned, because you've learned

On the outside, always looking in

Will I ever be more than I've always been?

'Cause I'm tap, tap, tapping on the glass

Waving through a window

I try to speak, but nobody can hear

So I wait around for an answer to appear

While I'm watch, watch, watching people pass

Waving through a window, oh

Can anybody see, is anybody waving?

When you're falling in a forest and there's nobody around

Do you ever really crash, or even make a sound?

When you're falling in a forest and there's nobody around

Do you ever really crash, or even make a sound?

When you're falling in a forest and there's nobody around

Do you ever really crash, or even make a sound?

When you're falling in a forest and there's nobody around

Do you ever really crash, or even make a sound?

Did I even make a sound?

Did I even make a sound?

It's like I never made a sound

Will I ever make a sound?

On the outside, always looking in

Will I ever be more than I've always been?

'Cause I'm tap, tap, tapping on the glass

Waving through a window, oh

I try to speak, but nobody can hear

So I wait around for an answer to appear

While I'm watch, watch, watching people pass

Waving through a window, oh

Can anybody see, is anybody waving back at me? (Ooh)

Is anybody waving?

Waving, waving, whoa-oh, whoa-oh-oh-oh

Never seen the musical but have heard this song both the movie version and this one and I think this one is better by a long shot.

Damn, i use to sing these songs lively, now they are starting to sound a lil too much like my life and it's just worrying
@CloverDoodle April 7, 2024 - 10:57 am
I got the opportunity to sing this for a play audition! Such a sad song but it’s my favorite! :3
@kathleenherrmann436 April 7, 2024 - 10:57 am
My husband is autistic. This song seems to represent those (and others from other backgrounds) so well. I can't hear it without thinking of his experience. He's a wonderful man who feels he needs to be "more" to gain my trust and affection. He doesn't. His heart is already mine ❤️
