2020 presented Hollywood with plenty of challenges, but it also brought its own set of breakthroughs in the world of special effects. Here’s a glimpse behind the scenes of 14 movies that featured imaginative animation, digital wizardry, lifelike practical effects, and cutting-edge stunt sequences.
2020’s 3D-animated films found innovative ways to animate and light their unique characters and worlds, the likes of which we’ve never seen before — from a character made up of a pair of pants in Pixar’s “Onward” to the otherworldly lunar kingdom seen in Netflix’s “Over the Moon.” Reboots like “Dolittle” and “The Call of the Wild,” along with the long anticipated video-game movie “Sonic the Hedgehog,” used VFX technology to combine CG animals with live-action human characters and environments.
Meanwhile, a combination of practical and digital effects made Machine Gun Kelly light on fire in “Project Power,” designed a thrilling tunnel escape in “Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey,” and created a terrifying villain out of nothing in “The Invisible Man.” Finally, from the massive battle scenes in “Mulan” to the gripping fight sequences in “Extraction,” “Birds of Prey,” and “The Old Guard,” this year’s action films pushed actors and stunt performers to undergo extensive weapons and combat training to execute some truly impressive stunt work.

Mulan is a PERFECT example of how a botched script will completely nullify all the hard work and dedication put into the rest of the film.
These movies today are all digital affects and AI pyrotechnics with a little bit of acting. You'll be lucky to see a good movie these days.
the more you post these behind the movie scenes, is the more some of us lose love for these movies. and the pictorial part keeps haunting in each movie we watch now days, likes, comments and shares are soon destroying the future movies
lol MULAN WAS SOOO BIG FLOP …..a big movie ? COME ON
YOU SHOULD HAVE RUN THE FINISHED CLIP . .LAME VIDEO AT BEST
The Hunt is a very underrated film. Political idealogues were freaking out and disowning it before they even knew what it was about. That's what real art does. It's a must watch.
Also Charlize Theron deserves so much credit for doing stunts in her action films.
Movie technology still Wow me till date
we use to call them storyboards (said at 11.22 mins)
⚽⚽
I'm a huge fan.
watching this made me teared up, the burning passion i have to be part of a film industry but sadly we're poor and has no connections
Every single one of these movies was absolutely terrible 👎
You can tell the Mulan actors worked REALLY HARD it’s just too bad the movie was kinda trash
8:35 Aw man, I wish they actually set MGK on fire.
Best watched with the mute on to silence the pointless commentary.
Thanks, nice doccy. Is there one for 2022/3?
This is just sad.
All boring
Omg l litterly LOVED THE MOVIE IN THE THUMBNAIL IT WAS AMAZING
Hollywood is dying.
Palsu
You missed the removal of the murder mills in china
Let’s give it up to the people that work so hard putting all these movies together like this! 👏 what great work and the hours they put in just as much as the actors
10:32 ❤
Best 4:42
4:27 ❤
They coulda used me for Keanu's fat suit belly, cheap at half the price lol !!
Who cares about special effects, when cinema dead.
Bill and Ted
ridiculous….oO
I really don't know why they bother. I just assume everything is done with computer effects these days. So many movies are so heavy on special effects but have very little in the way of engaging storylines, which is more important as far as I'm concerned.
They say this actor, that actress spent hours a day for the part in the movie. Well I have worked manual labour more hours in a day. They say the same about Keanu Reeves for the John Wick movies.yes I deed hard work, but let's be honest for how many millions is that hard work for. It's like when Sean Connery moaned like a child, that he had to spend 6 months living in the Jungle for one of his movies, really, I will spend 6 months in the jungle, with doctors, and everyone pandering me for $15 million. Tired of the acting profession with their I had to to this or endure that, 😭😭😭😭😭
Hokey Smokes! Only stunts we did were fake climbing a hill using different camera angles. But it was still lots of work and lots of fun No CGI. Just McDs apple pie afterwords.
Just goes to show how fake it all is… My money won't be paying their bills… Been out of teevee and moovies for many years now… Very freeing…
thats the only time mgk was ever on fire
The irony being that so much of the CGI in these films was painfully bad 😂
Ты как всегда порадовала меня
cinema lovers will laugh at this in 30 yrs
They do that, they do the other then they nip down the rub-a-dub and consume the drug slurp slurp innit after that the only way to go is hot curry and perhaps a lickle toot of the devil's dandruffe – oh yes….
It's made possible with everyone's cooperation
I worked as an extra on Transformer film and the process is amazing. Everyone should try it once just to see the amount of work it takes just to get the right scene. I was on set for four full days in numerous takes and never made it to the final cut.
Yeah, but the movies suck.
Over powered women and CGI have completely ruined movies.
Now I know why i don't go to the movies anymore.
It was a rough year because Pedowood insisted on producing woke crappola.
Я думал что уже все фильмы нарисованы, а нет, оказывается еще люди там тоже принимают участие:)
