Top 10 Submarine Movies

Submarine movies are almost always claustrophobic, epic and tense: these are some of our faves. In this video, http://www.WatchMojo.com counts down our picks for the top 10 submarine movies. For this list, we’re looking at those movies that feature submarines as a major plot element. While some other movies may have taken place in underwater labs or research stations, our list focuses on 100 percent submarine action.

The hunt for red October is one of the best films I've ever seen which is surprising for its age but I will admit Das Boot is the submarine film to end all submarine films.

What about "Ice Station Zebra" 1968?

I think this video missed how ridiculously insulting U-571 was. Plus, when the movie was released, it was very much seen as a historical film which it is NOT. It was only after the royal navy got the movie banned out of theaters that it was treated as it should. Not just to the British hero’s that spent a large chunk of the war on the enigma code-but it portrayed the Germans (as in Germans in other boats, just sailors, really.) as bloodthirsty, ruthless, monsters, which was completely wrong. Like, shooting at sailors who were in the water after sinking their ship. The movie wasn’t even that good. It was a disgusting film made by people who had no idea what they were talking about and the film should have never been considered without more historians involved.

I can live with Das Boot at 1 but how in the world is Crimson Tide not at least 2. I think it's number 1 but I get Das Boot is good too but the two in front of Crimson Tide is a joke

I had a little time on the USS Tench, a WWII diesel, and the nuclear powered 571– the Nautilus, of North Pole fame. Why leave off Ice Station Zebra??
@orriwiium4220 April 6, 2024 - 9:52 pm
Das boot takes the cake here no doubt

"Das Boot" has a very original and unique approach : you see and hear all from ONLY one point of view : the German Sub without any view from the other side. You lance a torpedo, you wait and count the seconds, you hear the explosions and they you know they will hunt you. You see and hear (the sonar searching signal etc.) and you feel all only from that particular ONE standpoint and that makes this movie so great and claustrofobic and very real. That's what the crew of a submarine is experiencing... As audience you get that exact same feeling and so you become one with that crew. That constantly consistent use of only that one point of view during the entire film makes this movie to... DAS BOOT... Yes, very unique cinematographic approach and best drama choice that could be made with indeed as result of this vision : the real number #1 submarine movie.

Das Boot and Hunt for Red October neck to neck.
@philanderphillips2309 April 6, 2024 - 9:52 pm
For me, it’s ‘The Hunt For Red October’. Connery, Baldwin, Sam Neill, Scott Glenn & James Earl Jones. Nuff said.

" The Wolf's Call " is probably my favourite. A 2019 french movie following a Ruby class SSN and a Triomphant Class SSBN. A great movie for those who likes submarines !
I discovered " Das Boot " yesterday and it was a very good surprise for a 42 years old movie... I bought U-Boat game after watching it :D

Actually the Polish were the first to crack the Enigma.
@gunprojects5398 April 6, 2024 - 9:52 pm
Das Boot is no doubt #1, but if this video was made later, the Black Sea (2014) would be in the top 3
