You missed Kill!. Although referred to as more of a paradoy of the genre is does a masterful job of deconstructing the genre and highlighting the absurdity and hypocrisy of the samurai culture shown in film.

The hidden fortress, Ran, and Saga of the Vagabonds should've gotten nods as well.

Note to WatchMojo: If #10 is “Baby Cart in the Land of Demons”, why did you show scenes from “Baby Cart to Hades”?

All the films you listed are great but no top 10 can, in my opinion, be complete without at least one entry being for the Zatoichi series. So many actors in the films shown also star in the Zatoichi series - even Mifune! So many good movies out there!
@redveinborneo4673 April 6, 2024 - 1:09 am
#1 should be Kibakichi and #2 should be ghost dog.
@yesyesyesyes1600 April 6, 2024 - 1:09 am

And the miniseries "Shogun"

Sanjuro deserves a place in the bottom five. It's a good message of what a samurai should be and actually is, when the samurai (Toshiro Mifune) comes across his foil in a lady who tells him that a good samurai keeps his sword in its sheath. Mifune is so humbled by this lady that he actually allows him to be used as a step to climb over a wall to escape. In the end, he tries to communicate this to his young samurai followers in an awesome display of an unsheathed sword. The last scene is the most powerful image in samurai movies.

Totally agree 7 samurai my childhood masterpiece movie !!!
@goldiesob April 6, 2024 - 1:09 am
Zatoichi The Blind swordsman should be in 1st place the original played by Shintaro Katsu . Having a Tom Cru movie on here is a joke

Hara Kiri, no question for me, I love Samurai Rebellion with Mifune also directed by Kobayashi, the Zatoichi series, Throne of Blood and of course Lone Wolf and Cub, my introduction to the genre, for which I’ll be forever grateful. Nothing beats Mifune though, my favorite actor ever.
