Tombstone. Not to many people know about what Kurt Russell did for this film. If I remember correctly, Kurt was going to be the main character and the hero of the movie. Due to running over budget, Kurt paid for the rest of the film to be made. Kurt also went into the directors chair and gave Val Kilmer the spot light.
It take a big person to step aside when they would be the hero of the film and let someone else take over.
To be honest, I don't know how Tom Cruise became a bigger actor then Val Kilmer. Top Gun showed off that Val could handle the spot light and yet he fisseled out light a tiny night light. I know Val got sick later in the 2000s but he should have shined brighter till then.

I lost any respect for this top 10 when I saw the positions of The assessination... Dance with wolves and Django. The guy that made this ranking hate westerns.

Two you missed that are in my top five are "Ride with the devil" and "The Jack Bull" I feel Ride with the devil is the best civil war movie ever made with an oscar worthy performance from Tobey Macguire

The Quick and the Dead directed by Sam Raimi is also really good, has Sharron Stone, Russel Crowe, Gene Hackman and a young DiCaprio
