I feel like I remember playing a game where you were in the center and could go up and down, and you had to zap bugs or something that came in from the sides, but I can't for the life of me find it. But it would be a pretty early memory so who knows what it actually was. I think it was on Intellivsion, though.

Wow. I’m 56… flash back to an amazing time on the US.

@jatmachado April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

Lol! Loved the video ending song. Snafu got the best songs of the era…

@phuxx0r3d April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

I got such flashbacks hearing the Snafu theme. I begged my parents not to get rid of this system 😂

@pacocandano April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

It was the video game console of my childhood in Mexico. Love it.

@woolhat1 April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

There was a fifth Intellivoice game called World Series Major League® Baseball. I didn't know about it until a friend showed me the game. It was the first game with black and white baseball players and first game with multiple camera angles. Intellivision spoiled me so mush that I couldn't find another game console I liked until the Dreamcast. That too was a landmark first of a kind console. Like my Betamax was to the VCR era.

This was my first gaming console which I got second hand from my older cousin along with her Star Explorer pinball machine,but yeah just when Nintendo was hitting the market I got this wonder of electronic goodness,good times.

@ronnierebhan229 April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

Dragon Fire, Demon attack, Dungeons and dragons, baseball, football, B17 bomber, bomb squad, all games i played millions of times! I wore those Control pads out. Some buttons started to stick.

@bryansteele832 April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

The Intellivision's control is absolute ASS! Imagine if they just turned it on it's side and gave it face buttons. Would have been a game changer.

@romrimland April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

Odd how most games on Intellivision looked better than the Atari 2600 but Demon Attack is such an exception. It was so much better on Atari and was one of my favorite titles.

@ChrisD-xl8xx April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

How we suffered..

@kevinstrade2752 April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

We were an Atari family…I have all thier systems and some of their computers….however….as an older collector I finally picked up an Intellivision about 5 years ago….im impressed. It is a very good system. Any kid getting one back in the day would have been happy. Few stinkers on the system. Most popular games made it to it….including a wayyyy superior Pac man. I love buying new homebrew for it though they are pricey AF.

@drphilxr April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

The Amico is still vaporware right?

@rileymcphee9429 April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

Ngl, a lot of these games looked super fun.

@Alinktome April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

I was 10 when a school friend invited me to play his intellivision. So cool, so hyped at that time.

@JonnyDIY April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

Too cool, thanks for sharing. My neighbor gave me an Intellivision 1&2. Can I play off modern TV or need an old CRT? With that lil box thing you showed

@adamv242 April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

It was a better, simpler time.

@VickGos-yr2gi April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

What a name intellivision. Video games 🎮 actually make you dumb.

@intellivisiongamer April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

I enjoyed the video, thanks

Intellivision is a classic video game console that was first released in 1979. It was developed by Mattel Electronics and was one of the first home gaming systems to use a microprocessor. The console featured a variety of games, including sports, action, and arcade-style titles, and could be played with one or two players.

One of the standout features of the Intellivision was its controller, which included a numeric keypad, directional pad, and several action buttons. This allowed for more complex game play and greater control over in-game actions.

The console was also notable for its graphics and sound capabilities, which were advanced for the time. It was particularly successful in the early 1980s, but faced increasing competition from other home gaming systems and was eventually discontinued in 1990. Despite this, the Intellivision remains a beloved piece of gaming history and has a dedicated community of fans and collectors.

@artieaudio77 April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

So cool seeing this. Great job showing the games. Takes me back to when my dad and i played baseball. He kicked my ass 😞😡 He still till this day 2023 brings it up. 😂😂😂😂

@keto6789 April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

I had an intellivision when I was 12.

@geometricart7851 April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

I just remember Black Jack and Baseball.

@carterandhisfamily7888 April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

Wow 16 bit back then they should have killed

@chinabluewho April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

Even thought the Intellivision was far more advanced that the Atari 2600 and they both launched at the same time , Atari sold 30 million 2600 units while Intellivision only sold 3 million.
The reason ???
Atari was a pick up and play system while the Intellivision was more complex to learn , people back then (myself included) had no understanding about video games and there was only pinball machines around in front of store lobby's and arcades in the mid 70's

More than likely Atari could have easily sold 70 million units (maybe even up to 90 million) of the 2600 if they hadn't come out with the 5200/7200 as consumers were thrown off by Atari's new launch of another system and even quicker launch of the 7200 dooming thier console line, most of their best games for the 5200/7200 were just reskinned 2600 games with just a bit better graphics and playstyle but people had to pay a lot for a single cartridge back then 20 to 50 dollars when min wage was around 4 bucks.

@hoferinfo April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

😊😊😊

@onelovemon1784 April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

I haven't seen or heard these games since my childhood. I was certain at that time that this was the most advanced science and technology on the planet. Kids must give this old stuff their one second of attention, laugh, then stick their heads back in their mega loaded cell phone

@lurkerrekrul April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

Actually, the Intellivision II had one major difference from the original version: Mattel tried to lock out third party games by checking each cartridge for a particular string. Because of this, some versions of Coleco games won't work on the Intellivision II.

@Sinn0100 April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

Ummm…okay, I want you to know that what I'm about to say isn't to put you down, make fun of you or start trouble. You did a very good job here. However, I would be remiss if I did not address something you said that was…incorrect.

You stated that the Intellivision was 16-bit which is 100% true but the bit about its colors isn't quite right. The consoles "bits" really has little to do with the color it can display. As an example the Sega Master System has a Zilog Z-80 8-bit microprocessor beating proudly inside of it. That console can display a resolution of 256×192@32 colors per screen with a total pallet of 64 colors. The reason it has the ability to display double the colors of the Intellivision is its VDP (Video Display Processor).

For reference- The Intellivision features an STIC (Standard Television Interface Chip) General Instrument AY-3-8900. It features 16 color pallet@2 colors per tile. There are other modes that allow all 16 colors for both foreground and background layers. If you're still interested I would look it up as it truly is fascinating.

@matthewlane518 April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

I loved "bump and jump" on the intellivision!

@nancymalone3094 April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

Great video! I have 2 of these systems, one original and one Sears version (yes, Sears….lol). And lots of games.
Who here can tell me how to hook them up to my Sony Bravia 4K? I have all the old connection crap stored away someplace (switches, cables etc), but please tell me someone has come up with a simple HDMI adapter option! Thanks!

@jkdbuck7670 April 3, 2024 - 12:18 pm

We had this and the Intellivision 2. Horrible controllers.
