I feel proud that WatchMojo used one of my videos for Marc Vivien-Foe. Never forgotten Cameroon warrior 🤍
Ray Chapman’s death is why the spitball is now illegal. Beforehand, it was a common practice to dirty up a new ball by covering it with saliva, Vaseline, and tobacco juice, among others. The result was a dirty, deformed ball that flew erratically, and as it flew over the plate, was impossible to see.
After Chapman’s death, MLB made it mandatory to switch out the ball when it got dirty. This rule changed opened up the floodgates for an unprecedented offense boom that made a superstar out of Babe Ruth. Which begs an interesting question: how successful would he have been at home runs if not for that rule change?
Also, it was a partial failure of the steering column that played a part in Senna’s crash. But it might not have been the only factor. Michael Schumacher, whose Ford-engined Benetton B194 was the first car in line behind Ayrton’s Williams FW16-Renault, noticed that the Williams looked nervous and skittish going through Tamburello on Lap 6, the first flying lap after a Safety Car period due to a crash at the start of the race. Could aerodynamic instability have been a factor? It’s not impossible, that’s for sure.

What’s Cleveland’s MLB team named now?
BTW, Damar Hamlin is a very lucky guy not to be on this list.
Dale Earnhardt car was not clipped by sterling marlin. He lost control and occur through dirty air.
RIP that Beligum goalie he died after he blocked a shot
Ayrton Senna and Dale Earnhardt Sr – two most outstanding race drivers ever. They will be missed.
Gilles Villeneuve died during the trials for the belgian Grand Prix.
How about greg Moore .
Dude…when Senna died; for us here in Brazil was like Elvis or Michael Jackson dying…the whole country…and I mean THE WHOLE COUNTRY mourned his death…and after he died our interest in Formula 1 declined forever
Fun fact about dale earnardt fatal accident in the onboard cam footage where the backseat would go you can actually see why his car got clipped by Sterling marlins car, a piece of his roll cage broke off the roof and struck him in the head.
I remember hearing about Earnhardt's accident was a kid. It was a tremendous shock.
Surprised Hank Geathers didn’t make the list.
I will never forget the day when Dale Earnhardt passed away. I don't think anyone will forget that day.
I remember an interview after the NASCAR race that took place on the same day that Ayrton Senna died. Mr. Earnhardt was obviously saddened by this and gave his condolences to Mr. Senna's family as part of the interview. I have no idea if they had ever met one another, but his respect for the Brazilian driver was obvious to see. I was heartbroken when Dale himself died in 2001. You could make a long video on all the motorsports racers who have lost their lives in pursuit of their sport.
Unless you are talking about soccer quit calling field's, the pitch.
I remember Dan Wheldon's crash in 2011 at Las Vegas.
No Hank Gathers?
Forever #3 Dale Earnhardt
RIP!
I also remember watching the WWE PPV where Owen lost his life
I was at LMS when Dan Wheldon was killed, it's a day I'll never forget.
The accident itself was beyond horrifying and we all knew something truly terrible had happened but no one knew exactly what.
The thing that I remember most was the absolute silence in the crowd for over an hour until we were told that dan had died and the race was over, that announcement sucked the air out of everyone and there wasn't a dry eye in the house during the five lap tribute.
By all accounts he was a wonderful human being in every way and I can't even begin to imagine how much his loss hurt those who knew and loved him.
The crazy thing is Dale’s wreck didn’t even look that bad in real time.
Great, now my frear of sports is even worse.
I remember actually watching that race that got Dale. Was crazy since the wreck itself didn't actually look that bad, blew my mind when I heard he died from it.
RIP to all of those on this list
My up-coming daughter is going to be named Senna.
I thought the Le Mans tragedy would be on here as it also killed around 50 people in the crowd too.
You forgot about Hank Gathers and Tim Masterdon(the only hockey player to ever to have died in an on ice accident )
There's a lot of sad things about Owen Hart that happened with his death and the aftermath. That's no secret. What I find shocking was Hart was booked to win the Intercontinental Championship that night.
Wait, you showed some people who died days later. That's not while competing.
Antoine Hubert is the most recent tragedy in F2 of 2019 one of the rising stars of motorsports. Jules Bianchi was the second most tragedy of modern F1 of 2014 season.
I remember when Dale Earnhardt died. People my high school were honoring him with his car number.
Senna will be my hero forever. Rest in peace to all the athletes.
Ray Chapman wasn't the only ballplayer to die cause of a play. The first base coach for a minor league team that was playing in Little Rock Arkansas was hit in the head by a line drive and killed. I was at the game when it happened
Who came here after Damar Hamlin almost died after suffering Cardiac Arrest
Thank God we won't include Damar Hamlin in another list like this
Also Bill Masterton, still the only NHL hockey player to have died as a result of an in-game injury. Helmets weren’t required for hockey players during Masterton’s time but when he suffered a fatal blow to his head that all changed
What about Nodar Kumaritashvili? He was a Georgian Luger who perished during a practice run at the 2010 Olympics
4,600 wins? Wow
God, I remember Hughes. Worst, it was something like two days between the impact and his death, so everyone spent that two days with hope battling against the dread that we knew…
On a positive note, Sean Abbott, the bowler who delivered that ill-fated ball, recovered from the incident and has now also represented Australia.
What about the driver of Shockwave
RIP Hank Gathers
