Oakland was once a great city bustling with business. Sadly, white people left to greater cities and the Spanish and black population piled up. The homeless populations grew and nobody wanted to play in a crime ridden city. As a result many of the pro teams left and the raiders didn't want to spend years playing in a rotted stadium with the As.
The Cincinnati Reds swept the Oakland A's in the 1990 World Series, marking the last time that either team has gotten that far. It's been ⅓ of a century.
POLITICS happened in Oakland–THATS WHAT HAPPENED.
All you have to look who’s running Oakland and the State of CA and you will find your answer.
Its run by democrats, plain and simple…..they destroy everything they touch, look at SF
No one wants to be Oakland. It’s a terrible place
Oakland is the biggest pos city I’ve ever been to in the u.s.
I mean I know Oakland people don't wanna hear it, but it's a suburb of San Francisco. It doesn't need separate sports teams.
And now Oakland is going to be barren of pro sports teams…… it’s depressing honestly
Now, Oakland only has the Oakland Roots USL Championship soccer team and the Oakland Ballers Pioneer League baseball team to support.
San Francisco is 20 minutes from Oakland. They dont need a sportd team because they have one 20 mins away!
Libby Schaaf and Sheng Thao have pulled a Robert Moses, Howard Schultz, Jeffrey Loria, Stan Kroenke and Clay Bennett by forcing the Warriors and Raiders out of Oakland. Now the Athletics might be next. SMH.
It became OVERLY POPULATED with hoodlums and criminals of certain groups.
You do feel bad for the fans of Oakland teams, but you gotta look at the city and wonder what the hell leadership is doing to lose the Raiders, Warriors, now on the verge of losing the A's. Not absolving MLB or Fisher or anything, but you gotta wonder what's happening.
They voted democrat
John fisher killed the A’s smh
One of the problem is the A’s stadium is only 20 to 40 minutes away from the San Francisco Giants stadium San Francisco has a far superior fan base
I left Hayward for Nevada and have to say that Vegas needed a team more.
Blame it on Democrats!
Crime, section 8, welfare, healthcare, crime, homeless, crime, priorities first, there is no money left for pro sports. And stupid liberal political imbecile’s…Oakland you have zero civic pride (none) why would a professional ball club want to be there?
The Golden Seals eventually becoming the Dallas Stars is a fun little ancedote that this video doesn't cover.
The problem? Oakland became Oakland. A dump.
Why do so many sports history channels overuse passive voice in their videos?
"Oakland's journey into major pro sports would begin in 1960…" No, it began in 1960.
"…[It's] main reason for establishment would be at the persistence of…Barron Hilton." Okay maybe I can see how passive voice fits here since this is a bit of a subjective statement. Still a little clunky imo.
"The Raiders would begin playing in San Francisco…" No they began playing in SF. It happened. In real life. No question.
"However when it would be agreed upon that what would become the Oakland Coliseum would be built in Oakland…finally the Raiders would be secure in Oakland…" Dude whaaaaaat is going on? Four instances in one sentence?! This statement is completely unintelligible word salad.
I realize this is a stupid, trivial thing to be upset about, but damn, it is a rampant quirk used by so. dang. many sports history creators. Using passive voice absolutely deflates all the impact and drama of a sentence, and it makes these really interesting stories seem so bland and forgettable. I'm completely befuddled as to why this practice is so widespread. Is it a plausible deniability tactic? Like so if you get called out for some inaccuracy you can be like "well, no, I didn't say that *happened*, I said it *would happen*." But these events actually happened! There's nothing hypothetical about them! Like decades ago these things really happened and they shaped the present world in concrete and irrevocable ways!
You have so many great videos that uplift these often underappreciated stories, stories not told in major sports journalism outlets. I really appreciate you shining a light on the lesser-known histories in pro sports, and tying in social, demographic, economic, and geographic contexts. It's clear you do a lot of research and make a huge commitment to putting out quality content. I think making the one minor change to replace passive voice with active voice would be a simple way to make your narrative instantly feel more compelling (okay see there I said "would be" because it's a hypothetical). Anyway, thanks for all the great work you do.
I feel for ALL the sports fans in Oakland, losing a professional sports team hurts, but 3 teams within a 10 year period? WOW! Up here in Minnesota we lost the North Stars 30 years ago, because of our politics having an attitude! We also lost the Lakers back in 1960, for basically the same reasons! But NOW we have OUR teams, at their current arenas and stadiums! I wish Oakland ALL the best!
I've been an A's fan since 1970. Gone are the days of competition there. Run down slums, drugs and poverty is a tough place to draw butts in seats. Especially when dudes are in the breezeway slinging rock. It's an armpit. The "stadium" is a dungeon. I don't go to many games for that reason as well as the crime within the area, I'd rather take my family to a game in Sacramento to watch the Rivercats in a great and fun environment. The A's are leaving for Vegas. Saddened by it to my core I do not blame them. I'll never see them in Vegas because I hate that town with a passion. I'm content to watch my A's flourish on TV and finally shut my buddy the Yankee fans mouth when we can afford to beat them down on parallel ground. Oakland, SUCK IT. You're garbage and liberalism got you where you are. The toilet. #goa's #oaklandsucks #thankyoujoshhamiltonfor2012 #727374champs
LIBERALISIM HAPPEND TO THEM
TT;DR :
Oakland is a f—-ing crime ridden dump. No one wants to be there.
