The Problem with Horror Movies Today

psychological horror movies are worst. I hate them. Movies need to have a good story.

I don't find horror movies scary. Jump scares are okay if they go with the flow of the movie, but when a movie throws them in just so it passes as a "scary movie," it tends to be more annoying than entertaining.
I saw It after Googling horror movies, but I ended up just staring at the screen, not reacting at all, and rolling my eyes at the predictability of it all. My best friend recommended The Conjuring and Insidious, and I recently ended up watching Insidious because he tends to be very critical of movies in general and I respect his opinions. I found it more realistic and actually had a good story. The jump scares weren't forced and actually had frightening looking ghosts. The ending also left on a scary cliffhanger. I saw The Birds as a little kid multiple times, and even though the effects are dated, it was still excellent.
Since I've been psychologically abused in real life, Gaslight was the scariest movie for me, but not in the way that people see "scary." Any film that has any form of psychological abuse or manipulation (Gaslight, The Winter Soldier, Catching Fire) is a million times scarier to me than any horror film with corny jump scares.

Scream Queen 👑 But there is hope, because there was a Stephen King 👑 movie that came out recently (and one of my top 🎩 favorite horror films Of All Time by the way. Called The Boogyman. And one of the reasons That movie was so great is You don't know that the movie's Actually about a family trying to move past the tragic loss of losing their mother, and a husband now having to raise his 2 girls on his own, That's No where in the trailer, What we know is…. There's a Boogyman 🙀 and it's the thing that comes after your kids when you're not paying attention…. Now That alone was awesome! This movie 🎥 had all the right jump 🦘 scares, Alotta it was shot in the dark, And I liked that we barely saw The Boogyman 🙀 And once we did, it was this Really cool very scary effective monster. But I also thought it was great that we had these relatable characters, who were trying to move on from something traumatic characters Who I actually cared about…. Other then Oculus where not only did I not care about The brother sister duo, but I could care less about the father, or his wife, or what he'd done in the past. That's not in the trailer either, and it's definitely not worked into very well…. It's more, Hello here's this movie you were expecting to see, okay blah, blah, blah. About 20 minutes later, here's a completely different movie that nobody cared about or could even understand….. And now all I'm left wondering is why this movie was even made in the 1st place?

I use your edit of Halloween as well as the sex metaphor to explain this concept to people often.

I have shared this video almost hundred times to discussions where people say ”The Nun” is good or some else ”jumpscare” movie.

If nobody likes these movies, how does the word of mouth not spread and discourage others from going to see them and therefor make the movie flop? Or are people really so idiotic that they want to throw money at a movie they know they're probably not going to like? I don't know if this is still a problem these days, as I don't go to the movie theatre much anymore due to how expensive it's become. And when I do it's not likely to be a horror movie.

The Babadook is everything done right with horror. Wonderfully acted, terrifying and has a great message about depression/grief.. It also just fucks with you, so so much lol 😂

Scream Queen 👑 Hell I'm SO good that I can make big budget horror films better. And THAT'S just for fun! And stop ruining good horror films by making Franchises Ya wanna know why Elm Street got so bad? Ya wanna know why The Scream Series got so bad? Because they Don't care about you or why you loved the 1st one They Just want to make $ Bringing back Billy Loomis from The 1st Scream so they could add Billy Loomis's daughter (which doesn't even work with the timeline by the way) Is Not creative! They just think that'll make more money 💵 I already have all the money I do this 4 fun.

i personaly hate the "found footage" type ..its just stupid …IMO

The trailer for 65 is 90% jump scares. Makes me not want to go see it. But I know Adam Driver is an excellent actor so I may bite the bullet.

The problem is that in my circle of friends, I am one of the few that really really love tension without any jumpscares. They get bored without those. AND ALSO, most of my friends like jump scares and all of those instead of story, and character. And I think that says a lot. Like the few of us really follow the plot where the others would want any action or jumpscares or anything that would happen just because, why not -_-

god ddamn beautiful at least i think. the video itself was awkward at first since it sounded off, like a younger version of chris. then he builds towards the horror of all movies basically being shit because all studios care about is the box office. seems like this video was an excellent horror movie to me. the idea of all movies being shit seems pretty fucking scary to me sincei have no doubt the peeople at top dont give 2 fucks.

Oddly enough the jump scares I find to be the most effective are the ones that have constant sound instead of quiet then sound. I remember watching the original Alien film from 1979 and remembering the only jump scare that I found successful. That being when Dallas gets taken by the Alien and never seen again. I think it works because it’s a constant stream of intensity. Being disoriented and quickly moving through a location, you have no idea what’s going to happen because the scene never gives you time to breath. Unlike most jump scares where the whole point is to let you breath then get scared. In this film, the tension is high, everything’s moving, the shouting from Lambert only distracts the viewer until the eventual BAM 💥. Alien tales Dallas with a loud screech. It works because instead of a slow build up to something that everyone knows is going to happen. It distracts the viewer with several aspects like Dallas running the constant music and Lamberts loud shouting, all of which distract the viewer so that they don’t expect the final jump scare of the scene. It also works cause it’s one of the few in the movie, not the majority of scares.

4:18 A Nightmare on Elm Street 1984 did something Similar the Scene where Rod Comes out of the Bushes and Grabs Nancy and Says "I'm not gonna hurt you" Notice how in that scene there is no Loud Noise when Rod Comes out

4:33 Perfect analogy! That's what I used to think. The kill doesn't matter that much as much as the development of characters followed by buildup and tension does.

I don't know about the movie but real life, Ouija boards are very dangerous.

A large number of real life possession cases that require an exorcist to handle come from people using Ouija boards.

Demons are real and Ouija boards invite them to enter your body.

Ouija boards are not something you want to mess with.
