Paleontologist Reviews Dinosaur Movie Scenes | Vanity Fair

How accurate is Hollywood when it comes to depicting dinosaurs on the big screen? Paleontologist Mark Loewen reviews dinosaur scenes from films including ‘Jurassic Park,’ ‘The Lost World: Jurassic Park,’ ’Jurassic World,’ ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,’ ‘Land Of The Lost,’ ’King Kong,’ ‘Night at the Museum,’ and more.

Filmed in Paleontology Collections at the Natural History Museum of Utah, located on the campus of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Special thanks to Abby Curran, Carrie Levitt-Bussian, and Beth Mitchell from NHMU.

You don't need to be faster than the T-Rex, you just need to be faster than the slowest person in your group.
Honestly, watching some of these videos makes me want to go back to school and take some courses on mythology and paleontology and history.

What you all have to keep in mind is that In-Gen genetically modified the dinosaurs on the islands of Isla Sorna and Isla Nublar 😅💯

John C Reilly knows a lot more about dinosaurs than I would've thought.

I love that he critiqued Night at the Museum but still acknowledged it's just a fun movie and not meant to be serious

This guy is so chill. More videos with him

My head cannon on the Dilophosaurus in Jurassic Park is that the scientists had hardly any DNA for that dinosaur and just picked a bunch of different scary reptile dna to make it. Hence the venom, size and neck frill.

This guy looks and sounds like if Kyle Gass chose a career path of paleontology

Okay I think I have an idea for what spinosaurus is sail with for I think it was for display and cut through the water like the dorsal fin of a shark or something like that

1:23 to be fair, in the novel, all revived animals have bad eyesight because of using amphibian DNA to complement the rebuilt genetic material. in the movie, though, they treated it as fact for some reason

How do we know they were covered with feathers? How do we know any of the outer look? We can only know the size.
@flufwix April 1, 2024 - 5:38 am
Didn’t they mix the dna of dinosaurs in Jurassic Park? That might explain the discrepancies. To anyone who hasn’t been, the natural history museum in Salt Lake City is fantastic

Movies are just entertainment. If you want real you need to look for the word ..... "documentary ".
@Ken19700 April 1, 2024 - 5:38 am
65 million years on a lost island would probably make everything smaller.
@jackman5840 April 1, 2024 - 5:38 am
It's funny because at that point you could just say the spitting one was just undescovered before to make the scene. not make it one that doesn't make sense. lol still great movie and all.Also like since the original came out the explination has been genetic editing to make the park more interesting. I know people know this but it wasn't mentioned I don't think. And in land of the lost the humans are there too bud... and the golden gate bridge teleports in at one point so... come on here. I'm slowly getting mad. lol.

He looks exactly like how Dr Grant is described in Jurassic Park the book.
@namchau-wz4mj April 1, 2024 - 5:38 am
was that Hagrid ?? 😮
@DenverStarkey April 1, 2024 - 5:38 am
the author of the book , said that he based his velociraptor off the Deinonychus. at the time he wrote the first book that was the largest raptor species known. at 4ft -5.5 ft tall. he took the velociraaptor name though because it was cooler than deinonychus in his opinion. of course in the movies spielberg made them more like 6ft-7ft tall, to make them a more intimidating threat.
the utah raptor wasn't even discovered till a year or two after the first movie came out.
@Chaoticchaos732 April 1, 2024 - 5:38 am
I'd like to think that the scientists who created the dinosaurs made them way scarier than they really were i.e making the raptors bigger and adding poison to the diloposaurous
@dakotashea3561 April 1, 2024 - 5:38 am
I sometimes watch these and wonder... has Dan Avidan seen this video too??

@arirenzi-surprenant6915 April 1, 2024 - 5:38 am
It’s laughable that they tried to make it seem like the spinosaurus could body a T-rex
