Linsanity on New York Sports Now – SNL

Linsanity takes holds of the post-game anchors at “New York Sports Now” (Bill Hader, Jay Pharoah, Kenan Thompson) who get caught up in racist Asian puns until their co-anchor (Taran Killam) takes it too far. [Season 37, 2012]

Think Lin is overrated for his 2 weeks of slaughtering bad teams since he wasn't being scouted but this is on point lmao
@prentisaur March 29, 2024 - 7:43 pm

I kind of understand what the sketch writers were trying to do here, but the audience unironically laughing at the Asian jokes is cringe AF. The sketch is legitimately pointing out the differences between how we treat black jokes (bad and racist) and Asian jokes (funny and not racist), but immediately and repeatedly undercuts its message by having people laugh at shitty Asian jokes. You can't be like, "oh my god, these jokes are so racist," then go and tell those same racist jokes without some kind of subversion. If you do, you're just telling racist jokes.

There’s a historical basis in why so much emphasis is placed on racism towards Black communities in the U.S. But I hope they learn from these injustices, and ensure that no one, regardless of their ethnicity, experiences racially motivated hate. Because…
The Americans are just continuing to divide themselves with racial bias and hatred. And now their historically proven errors are imposed on Asian American communities, as well as on African American communities, amongst other ethnic groups.
They need to come together as a spiritually prosperous and united nation.

People become extremely sensitive when even a sign of potential discrimination against African Americans show up. But when it comes to racism towards Asian Americans, all of a sudden there's no offense lin-tended.
@Blue-no4jt March 29, 2024 - 7:43 pm
Surprised they never asked Lin to host SNL when he was a hot commodity... in NYC. He posts skits himself on Youtube.
@danielblumentritt9762 March 29, 2024 - 7:43 pm
Bill Hader almost looks like he's impersonating David Tennant's incarnation of Doctor Who here..
