Planet Fitness in South Africa is very different, no lunk alarm, everyone just does their own thing, I've seen massive guys at the gym and they're typically the nicest and most helpful people

I'd rather work out at home than go to the gym and get harrassed and other stuff i do not like waiting to get on the machines or having to clean them either it justs aggravates me so much I'd rather work out at home plus i can workout wearing whatever i want and not be judged on what I wear all the time or get cat called 💀

To be honest, the calisthenics in the park that are free seem better if you have the strength to weight ratio for pull ups, muscle ups, iron crosses. Human flag variations.

I don’t get the intimidation thing, like most big lifters I know are some of the nicest people I know, now not to say there ain’t assholes, there is, but most are pretty supportive, knowing tgemeselves started somewhere.

I mean pf isnt bad but it isnt good I usually go 5-6 days a week now to pf it definitely doesn’t have the stuff of other gyms smith machines are usually taken because for whatever reason only 3 smith machines lol most machines are ok and they have some cable machines wnd free weights

Biggest problem I had with PF were people hogging the machines and what little dumb bells they actually have. Only decent time to go was in the middle of the night when no one is there.

I've never seen ANYONE that works out at Planet Fatness, actually look like they lift.. It's not a gym. It's a club for people to feel like they go to the gym. Goslen McCall of PR for PF admitted the gym was not created for anyone serious about lifting. It's a money trap. They make money off the very limited use of their facility. This is why they don't have serious lifters. No wear and tear, low maintenance and over head. This is why the fee is so low.. Most people that work out there workout casually or maybe every now and then. Many people forget they even have a bank draft. It's the McDonald's of the fitness industry. Anyone that says "ahh man I get great results and blah blah"..... No you don't.

For all of the people out there who say that the grunting seasoned lifters are actually nice and encouraging, I don't doubt it BUT I will say that lifting and working out can be daunting for a lot of people. Especially people who are already insecure about how they look or how strong they are. Also if you're in a gym with people who are really intensely training and say they are waiting for the equipment you are using you can start to feel like you are less entitled to it. I felt more like this when I was younger but I could see how some people would feel that way so it's good to have a place where people don't have to deal with all of that. Lets be honest, most people are very amateur when it comes to working out.

Most are not body builders and power lifters. Just trying to get some exercise. Planet fitness fills this gap very well. Price is great. The place is very clean. If you are serious, you go to a place with lots of free weights. Somewhere the others are after the same results as you.
