Veterinarian Answers Wild Animal Questions From Twitter | Tech Support | WIRED

Wildlife veterinarian Dr. Romain Pizzi answers the internet’s hottest questions about wild animals. Why does a giraffe have “antennae” on its head? Why do big cats have round pupils and house cats have slits? Does an elephant really have a great memory? What’s it like putting an oxygen mask on a tiger?

This was waaay more interesting than I thought it would be. Dr. Pizzi is a gem, and the questions were intriguing, to say the least.

@theilluminati682 March 25, 2024 - 4:35 am
With snakes, another way to tell their gender in some species is the length of their tail. Less reliable but also less invasive than probing.
@andisteel March 25, 2024 - 4:35 am
i could listen to this man for hours
@frankda4 March 25, 2024 - 4:35 am
FYI studies show placebo still shows up if you tell the person your giving them placebo.

The placebo question and answer is fascinating.. I love his accent and passion for animals. He’s awesome .
@D.von.N March 25, 2024 - 4:35 am
WHY elephant never forgets wasn't sufficiently answered IMO. Yes, they have a large brain, but why did they grow it that large? They have to remember to survive. They live some 70 years or so, they have to memorise routes to water during dry season. They have a matriarchy and them matriarch leads the whole herd across the vast land. Others memorise it themselves, in case something happened to their matriarch. Animals don't grow huge brains just for fun. In birds, in their tiny skulls, the brain cells are more densely packed, so quality over quantity if they want to also be light to fly better.
@thecuntyone March 25, 2024 - 4:35 am
the elephant communication part made my tears start up
@allythearts5439 March 25, 2024 - 4:35 am
When animals go into surgery do they dream 🤔
@debbylou5729 March 25, 2024 - 4:35 am
Do you have any idea that you wrote a script A script that the aliens repeat every time they grab a human and explain a probe and how often you can catch one
@freconsbo March 25, 2024 - 4:35 am
WHOA! This is engagingly interesting. 😃
@Alr1ghtyThen March 25, 2024 - 4:35 am
4:15 This is why humans are so afraid of aliens anally probing them. Because humans do it to other animals 😂
@bcaye March 25, 2024 - 4:35 am
My DSH cats literally have round pupils when the light is dim. Since I prefer dim light that is most of the time.
@ThatCoolKidYouKnow March 25, 2024 - 4:35 am
I use my sexing probe quite differently 😅
@TheCutiePatrol March 25, 2024 - 4:35 am
Not true, I've seen a hippo eating a zebra, so they possibly would eat a person, wouldn't be too hard.
@hippoanonymous8841 March 25, 2024 - 4:35 am

Here's me thinking he's based in either South Africa or somewhere near AUS/NZ etc and trying to figure out his accent, and the entire time he's been in Nottingham UK, my own town. Heh.
@_innerpeacekeeper March 25, 2024 - 4:35 am
