I think we like the source engine because it looks cheap and realistic at the same time, and that's why it looks so weird. It's like the uncanny valley but for buildings or something.

CO-OP store in that csgo map is based on chains of franchise stop shops on europe, so its not like they dont try to mimick real life locations, but i get what you mean.

That “source engine jank” can be attributed to the original Quake 1. Early call of duty games had some crazy custom maps as well
