The time has finally come to see which game engine, Godot or Unity, is truly the best…

godot is apparently now available on mobile, so if you want to use it on tablet (or phone if you don't find it unbearable), you now can
how about a rematch in 2024?💀
boy oh boy this comparison did not age well…
aged like fine wine
Can we just agree that both unity and Godot are the same thing.
What is the language should i learn to make video game ?❤
For learning resources, i would say for specific usecase that is pixel rpg games, i found that godot has more videos and good ones, for unity i only found devlogs, no good tutorials.
Number one thing I would like to know is what capabilities have GODOT. In Unity I have timeline, animation system, Textmeshpro, Cinemachine, grid system, ScriptableObjects, etc. What Unity have GODOT don't (or maybe vice versa). And how C# looks in GODOT. Same abilities like in Unity?
If it's open source; doesn't that add complications in terms of hacking whilest creating a multiplayer game? Keep in mind I'm a noob in terms of game dev
what type of movement would you call the movement in the minigame at 2:40? moving 1 tile at a time
Did you're game switched to Godot 4 if I want to make a 2d commercial game with a big world and handle a lot of entities should I use Godot 3 or 4
Just not a fan of nodes, prefer traditional game objects and prefabs as well as ECS which is something Godot doesn't have yet but there is a plugin being worked on so maybe 5.0 as the 4x branch is just out of scope for this. As for Unity Vs Godot, sure Unity did a cardinal sin but if I'm looking at tools as TOOLS than yea Godot would be the smaller tool of the 2 and that's simply funding, developers, and so on. Not gonna drag the whole physics problem (yea.. they botched physics pretty bad) you really just need to use the tool that ticks all points for your game be that Unity, Godot, or Unreal (prob the best for HD2D games but granted both Unity and Godot can do this, you.. just wont achieve the same level of lighting/shadows as unreal cause… unreal has literally the best renderer in the industry as of right now) If you stick with Unity just be weary, and if exporting to consoles (prob won't have to worry about this until launch anyway but getting approved is pretty easy, granted Nintendo is a bit harder/stricter than Sony/M$) And $1.8k as an investment is lower than what you'd pay to port to consoles with Godot (basing this on my own quotes).
Unity just broke trust, so open source is the way to go. And while they did roll back most of the outrageous new rules, they won't begin to restore trust as long as the execs who did it are still there. IMHO
I would really appreciate if you could make a 2023 comparison, considering many developers are leaving unity due to the new pricing policy
I'm really hoping that with the whole unity issue that came out a couple of days ago with the absurd charges they are gonna attack on for installs that godot Start getting the attention and love it deserves from people who need to switch from unity. This in turn should raise awareness for the game engine In general and should hopefully cause more funding for the product Which is also open source which means it will be a better final product at the end anyways.
I'm kind of just hoping for a future where goodo becomes the all in one game engine that doesn't charge an obscene amount of fees just to Use it and as a result game developers will be able to make higher quality projects on a Shorter time frame and i will be able To enjoy aquality game again
this hits different now
well guess what godot is now officialy better
you got a clear winner now lol
Godot also has first-class Linux support for game development, cuz ome of the Godot devs also work on the Linux kernel
Also godot is much better for your average linux user. Plus it is a tiny game engine. It is only megabytes whereas Unity is gigabytes
Who's here after the news? RIP Unity I'm going to Godot
After hearing the news that Unity now has fees for each install, I wanted to look up Gadot. Thanks for this video. It seems really cool.
thanks for this video man
I don t like the signals in godot. I'm new to godot. Sometimes I told an object to do sth by it's function. But it does not work because it is not linked. I think it should link automatically by it's function name.
I am not sure if unity handles this better.

"maybe it's Scrath" haha
It is capable of doing things but it is really just an introduction to programming. Loved it though
Godot is ours. Yours to keep. Why should we use someone else's engine since we have no say about it?
If some other engine has something better, just make yours better too, don't just dump yours to use theirs, that's just lazy nonsense that you'll pay for sooner or later.
scratch is just for me (true pls true yes)
i personally use godot because unity well doesn't work on mac
Just finishing up my second game in unity, first that I plan to publish (by finishing up I mean still a couple months of development left at least haha) and in really considering Godot. Unity and c# feel so unintuitive. It kind of feels like they actively fight you instead of being tools to create your game. I hear GDscript is pretty user friendly and the node system works wonders once you get used to it. I look forward to trying it out. I also didn’t know most engines let you edit script in engine. Having to have visual studio open in a separate screen all the time always kind of bugged me
Godot or unity idc as long as I don't use python
nice! Am going to start using Godot, but still am on the Unity side!!!
When you are starting on a game, you can start on Scratch remixing people's games, start making OWN Scratch games, and then move for GameMaker 2, and when you are experienced enough, you go to Godot.
unity ez win go brrrrrrrrrrr t67afsdpıuafsduoıgFEWUHFIEWQDRUPIOGHRPIUAREGHPISEURHGPO9EUAWSHRGPOUIAEHRGĞOIERHĞOGIHAEPOIRUGHAĞEOIURHGĞAOEURHGĞOUAHRGĞOİAEUIRHGĞİOUAIRHGİOUAHGOİUAHRGUAOİHRGĞUAOHĞEDRGUHAĞOEUIRHGĞOAIEHRGĞOAIHRGĞOAIHURJGĞİOAIHRGĞİOAIHGĞOSIHRĞG0PASHJĞSIERHOIASERHOIASGERHOIEASRGHOIEGRAHOIERGHAOIHIOGFAHŞRGEHŞEARGHOIJŞAFHOIJGAPJGIRGEAIİRGEAIİRGNOIKŞEABRNOŞBIJTNOIŞBAERTBIŞOTABNOIETRANĞIOATBENOIŞEATBNOABERNBOŞETBANŞOESTRBNŞSTRBNOIŞNAOIŞBENOIŞABENOIAERBOIHAJEGOİASTIJGOIKSFNJBĞOISFNBĞOPIAHJRĞ0IBAJERIBJAĞİIPHJAĞİOIJGĞOIAEHJRGĞOIAEHGĞOIAHNO
Attempted nothing gm1.4.9 for a while, attempted something within a 2day span to a mininal yet technically complete effect and haven't touched game creation since. I'll be going woth Godot next. Main dealbreaker is visual studio, do not want to have to deal with telemetry, spying, etc when I can go offline on a potato machine, optimize things for linux rather than cater to the popular os, is the idea while havong no experience in deployment or linux, but nothing else seems worthwhile tbh.
Yeah, paying 1% of $100k to Unity is really a con while you release your game made in free Godot on Steam that charges 30%.
godot is trash
My computer doesn't have to right graphics card or smth so I can't even use it if I wanted to, which I do
I mostly started with godot because I liked the nodes and picked up really quickly and also because it could run on my old computer unlike unity and because I'm used to lua and python so gdscript was a no brainer
Dunno why but when he said the port to a toaster joke, I thought of the old flying toaster screen saver.
