Last year, Seiko announced an entire re-vamp of their much-loved Seiko 5 line up. An entry-level staple and certainly a 101 class in mechanical watch ownership, the Seiko 5 had long represented a cornerstone in the foundation of Seiko’s enthusiast-focused offerings. But, as nothing lasts forever, in announcing the new Seiko 5, Seiko ended the lifecycle of all of the older models and began a new chapter in the Seiko 5’s impressive history.

I will never buy another seiko ever I bought mine in February sport watch it’s junkIt loses two minutes a day I’ll never buy another one and when I got it it was losing eight minutes today never again I’m gonna buy some cheap watch ever

I had 2 identical seiko automatic base model wrist watch both had accuracy problems. For every week 10 min were off
How reliable is the underwater factor?
Great video and great watch. I was trying to choose between the Citizen Promaster Dive and the Seiko 5 for my future water activities, but my 17 cm wrist won't handle the Promaster and the non-screw crown from the Seiko won't let me swim in peace. I will have to look for either a more expensive diver to fit my small wrist or a cheap Invicta or Duro that won't hurt me too much if it breaks.
I think this might be my first serious watch. Doubt I will go beyond this, I just want something I can own for a long time and for it to be a good, well known and respected watch rather then some cheap jeweller brand of watch that has a cheap movement and fancy case.

The detractors in this comment section are out of control with their criticism. The SKX became the ultimate beginner's watch because it was high-quality, stylish, and functional. The 5KX is all of those things. NOBODY uses a watch for professional diving anymore. This watch provides 100m of water resistance and can survive a day at the pool just fine. It looks great, feels sturdy and is still the perfect "first automatic" for someone getting into the hobby. It's remarkable how out of touch some watch collectors have become.

i had an skx and sold it for its msrp a few years back, wish i never sold it
these cost twice than the SKX a few years ago. They have a better movement, which is still inexpensive. At 200 dollars or more these should all have sapphire glass and a screw down crown. Pass.
Just bought mine today, it's my first automatic watch. I'm very happy with it. Will shelf my Apple Watch unless I'm at the gym or on a run.
Was going to get a SKX used yesterday and after seeing the price of $300. to $450. range they’re going for used with no 200mm guaranteed, I decided to go for a new Seiko 5. It only costed me $169. for a new open box for the SRPD 55. So for about half what the wanted for a used , I’m getting a new SRPD and not worry about serving a used SKX to have it dive proof. Bc there’s no guarantee that the used SKX will be 200mm water proof unless it’s a new unused one.
Should I Get a Timex Navy XL Auto or Seiko 5 Automatic??? which one guys…about 200 bucks is what i can spend.

I guess the ability to mod and have fashion options is worth a couple of points, but man, Seiko left us hanging when they DC'd the SKX, I'm sorry.
My Casio Compass watch, essentially a $50 field watch, has 100 M of WR. I have a Seiko 5 and I like but it's a desk diver all the way. To get what we had with SKX, you now have to go up to the Prospex at $600.

Does this guy actually know anything about watches? One of the most important differentiators between a good watch and the rest is the use of sapphire glass not the friggin’ rivet design.

I am looking for some watches that I could wear daily and also wear while surfing. I really do like the looks of Seiko 5 Sports, however, I am slightly worried about that latter requirement.
I love the look but for $4 dollars more I can go to Long Island watch co a get basically a modded seiko for $299 and you can dive with it and that’s with dbl domed sapphire crystal and ceramic bezel!
On object that claims to be something but can't reach what it promised ist called kitsch (trash) in jaopanese it's also called kisshu キッシュ

I still got my 007 as my daily driver and 013 bnob from 2019. Problem is 5kx blackout one is lookin really good. Should i mod my 007 or buy 5kx? and how does the price compare?

I think its such a shane the 5series… They made a diver looking watch that you can not dive with it!!!
Hardlex scratches easily. 100m water resistant. Treat is as a dress/sports watch and you will be pleased. Day date is handy.
