Stevies had the thickest string set of all his low E string was 0.58 and high E was 0.12

For me he will always be NR 1 his sense of rhythms in his playing was phenomenal

and almost never a single string note even in the solos

So much music from a 3-piece band.
SRV plays rhythm and lead at the same time.
He was my generation's Buddy Holly or John Lennon.
The only guy who comes close to filling the void left is Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

SRV had lots of inspirations, much like Hendrix did. Can't help but imagine Jimmy welcoming Stevie at the pearly gates with a huge warm hug and saying to him: "Boy, you played it the way that I always wished I could have".

Stevie has different riffs in different song letting the others know the shift, stops coming, he occasionally breaks a string and keeps on playing and replacing it he drops his picks and keeps playing and picks it up, he used to carry several pics in his pocket. I did set up in small stages before clubs with speakers, lights, and mixing boards long before foot pedals and the electronic ones. He and brother and a few others in 1969.

But what is more shocking is that i thought everybody knew a good band meant they were tuned to each other. But yes, makes sense since so much music is created alone now because of technology.

We ALL do. New music is influenced by what the artist heard growing up and whatever research they've done. I wish I had been there to hear some of the old Jazz, Blues, and Country influences to my modern rock and metal

There were so many greats back then but it just saddens me to know that they were gone too soon. You want another one to reactbto try Grand Funk Railroad 1969 Inside Looking Out, great song for a 19 year old Mark Farner, the lead man but you will see a band that fed off of each other and all were great together. You can hear Don Brewer the drummer add some vocals in this one and Mel the bass player gets some front time as well. Another song to hear is American Band with the drummer doing the singing.

Just know that Stevie Ray used .13 strings. The thickest strings there are. So before every performance, he'd put super glue on his finger tips and glues them to his legs. Then rip the skin of his leg so he'd have an extra layer of skin on his finger tips to do this.... for me, for you, for the audience and of course for himself. That guitar needed a sigaret after that. And kid... that that fucking hat off

FUQ the haters! Brother man, your videos and reactions are a favorite for me to watch with my wife and little girls. You make it really REALLY easy to introduce others and myself to these songs. A huge "Thank You" from a 31 year old FUQ BOY. To Andy, I've been a guitarist for over 20 years, and yes sir, the insanity from a guitar perspective, is overwhelming. Definitely a favorited video among the guitar community!

Stevie is top notch. Not the best jam but good. Look into gary Moore, Joe bonamasaa, Joe satriani, ......to many to list. Real top of the line musicians. No backing tracks. No ear pieces. No extras.

Kenny Wayne Sheppard tried to play voodoo child and it was horrible, outside of Jimi and Stevie the only other person who I’ve seen play voodoo child well was John Mayer. I’m not a guitar player but I do know that it’s such a hard song that most who try aren’t even close.

One thing to note about SRV and Double Trouble, is that for the majority of their existence they were a 3 piece. They added a keyboardist later on for some of their stuff. But this forced Stevie to play rhythm and lead at the same time to fill out more of the space and still be able to play all the solos and little licks that he did.

My nephews band got 3rd place in Memphis at the international blues band competition when he was 15 years old. He played on Beal St until he was killed in a car accident at 23 but he was a regular at BB Kings and he also played the grand opening of hard rock Cafe in Memphis and Nashville

Great observation on the timing ,,,yes the band just has to pay attention but "feel" it as well. I'd love to hear more of your views on this. Sometimes they didn't want it to be perfectly timed just slightly late creates an anticipation, slightly early creates tension and this can be for vocals especially. Where today in much of music they wouldn't dream of not being "perfect" but kinda the same and without imperfections kinda bland?
